After seeing & reporting on the RED booth products & releases...

Would someone please do some recon throughout the event and report back on potential new RED "STUDIO" Matte Box options?

I have a feeling RED will be showing a smaller matte box and perhaps their larger studio brother as well. If so ask for delivery dates... Studio may be a ways off from delivery and I need an option now.

Redrock's is too small for my needs and doesn't have the swing away option yet.

Looking for a 6x6 or 6.6x6.6 Swing away Matte Box that can take a 150mm lens front. (yes it's for a Cooke 18-100)

I would like to hear & or see some other options to purchasing an Arri MB14 for $8600 configured.

Thanks for your time!!

If you have anything to report on new Follow Focus systems that would be informative as well.

P.S. I know about Cavision's product, but it's been reported that their product has poor tolerances on the rods lining up (they admit to it) & poor customer service.

Hi Russell,

To clarify, the microMattebox does have a swing-away arm. The maximum lens size it currently supports is 144mm, so it's true your lens wouldn't fit it currently.

Cheers!

Hi Andrew,
What is the weight on the Micro Matte box with the flags attached?

I've been critical of the build quality of some of the redrock gear in the past on these boards and after having seen the redrock mattebox in person I think it represents an incredible value.

The construction and materials are pretty damn nice, especially for the price.

The demo models have painted knobs and some of the metal finishing on the protos is a little shiny but apparently the production models will feature anodized knobs and a more matte finish on the black metal parts. If this is the case, I would rate this mattebox as a no-brainer/must-buy for someone who needs a solution immediately, assuming your it will cover your particular lens.

Nice work redrock!

hi guys

all of our units here at NAB show the swingaway, so don't know how we missed communicating on that one.

The shipping versions are different from the show models in that we are the finishes will be matte (vs some of the parts that we show are shiny here), the matte box rods are carbon fiber (vs some aluminum we are showing, though the Red model we are showing has the carbon fiber), and a few other minor improvements.

Please come by and say hello - great to meet folks in person

Brian

Hi everyone

I also wanted to clarify our pricing, since there was some confusion about the Red Bundle we offer. the microMatteBox 19mm version has swing-away arm, 2 rotating filter stages, 4 donuts, flag and 2 sidewings, and 19mm swing-away arm is $795. The hard case with fitted foam is available separately

Thanks

Brian

Hey Brian, will the RED model be good for nikon still lenses. Sorry I am buying a mattebox for the first time.

Brian,

Any update on the release dates for the mattebox? - I reserved one last year and my Red no. has just come up.... :)

Also, Is your follow focus good for the Red lenses? - The 18-50 & 50-150 in particular. And do you do a red bundle for that or will the standard bundle do? (19mm rods)

Thanks,

Ross

hi everyone

the microMatteBox is available for advance ordering now - we committed to ship all orders (with reservation holders getting prioritized shipping) within 60 days. We are also going to include some last minute nice finishing touches we've recently received.

yes, the microMatteBox good for nikon lenses.

regarding our microFollowFocus, yes i've used it with several of the Red lenses. The gear is a bit close, so we're also creating an upgraded drive gear that improves the fit. I'm not sure I understand your question regarding bundles - we have a red microMatteBox bundle, but no public announcements on a bundle with the microMB and microFF

Hope that helps

Brian

Will the gear be interchangeable with the current set up on the follow focus unit?

Brian,

I guess my question is this: I want a follow focus for my Red , to use with the 18-50 & 50-150 & the peleng 8mm, and hopefully most other lenses I might rent now and again. Yours would seems to be the best option price/performance wise.

Would you reccomend I buy your follow focus now? Should I wait till you produce the new gear? And is there any other bits I might need to make it work?

Thanks,

Ross

Hey Ross,
PM me in a week. I have the followfocus and it is easily customized to fit on the universal mount until a better option arises. I should have my camera by this weekend or monday. I will tell you then how it works with the 18-50 lens.

Okay - sounds like all questions answered - if not, please respond back or drop me a line
