I've got a little emergency... kinda sorta.

I've been shopping the show for a good deal on a tripod and pretty much decided on a cartoni delta package.

I went to Able cinetech and they put together a "special reduser" discount of around $6,800. from the tiny bit of research I've done this hardly seems like steal, and possibly not even a deal.

I also was told to talk to them by Tiffen who said they'd give me a good price on the new Hot Mirror ND filters. I barely know anything about filters, but the $480 per filter sounds like a lot.

So to questions i need answered tonight/tomorrow morning:

1. is the delta package at $6,800 reasonable let alone a great deal?

2. is the IR issue bad enough that I NEED to buy the Hot Mirrored NDs? how much are standard NDs usually?

THANKS GUYS! :)

1. for tripods...you could ask custom supply for an o`connor head 1030 hds,if this fits your needs without the euro quick release plate...the ET plate mounts directly to the head.

2. the ir issue is quite visible if you are using nd .9 or higher....there are some cheaper solutions, which others test....regualar nd filters are 150-200 dollars, except the 1.8 nd....hope this helps

I would definently shop the price you got. You should get a better price or another product with a much better price.

No need to rush here as I spoke to Robert Orlando (from Tiffen) and he said that the IR filters aren't going to ship for a while. Unless you were told else?

FYI- NAB is a showcase for the latest equipment from all the manufactures, it really isn't intended as a place to shop for the lowest price.

Tiffen combo IR/ND Filters are shipping as of now. I picked my first one up yesterday, $368. ND/IR 1.8 4x5.65 I think the 1.2 is also shipping...

Are these the standard IR/ND filters or the Red-specific IR/ND filters? I was told at NAB that the Red-specific won't be ready for a few weeks and prices haven't been determined yet.

You want the HOT MIRROR IR/ND filters. They ship in about three weeks. They are about $600 a filter I believe.

IR / ND's have little effect on the Red's IR pollution issues. Read some of the posts on this before buying. The Hot Mirrors and Hot Mirror combo filters work like a charm.

If you are trying to save money buy normal ND's and put a "clear" Hot Mirror in front.

Take a look at the Schneider IR Clear. They claim they can eliminate most of the pollution with that filter and then you use your normal set of filters which you probably already have.
