Not sure how many on this forum have ever set up a tradeshow booth. My company had a 20'x20' at Macworld last year to launch our Vizzywig app. I'm speechless about Red's booth. No one seems to be talking about the impossibility of setting up that lab-cleanroom facility on the Las Vegas Convention center floor!

The unions have so much control and so many rules. They don't even allow you to start setting up until the day before. I can't even imagine the cost and complexity of getting all of that setup and functioning.

Wow Mr. Jannard and team. Wow!

Patience, time, and a whole lot o' spendin' money.

Different industry, 100'x100' booth (medium sized, two story, large crew, lots of adrenaline). You learn a lot about yourself. Takes a special kind of person to work tradeshows. Pressure cooker of demand for perfection up against prototype has done in far better folk than I.

Me, I learned I develop a southern accent somewhere around 40 hours with no sleep.

No. I mean. It's impossible!

How can you set up a full blown lab and clean room environment on a union controlled trade show floor in 24 hours? Set up all the computers, electronics and testing equipment? Keep track of all the invaluable customer cameras and raw sensors? Permits for the gas? Reliable power? Lodging and transportation for so many key people. How do you train union guys in 4 hours to do all the labor? They won't usually let your people touch anything. This goes way beyond money. Some things can't be done quickly at any cost. I'm curious if an exception was made for RED...otherwise the logistics are mind-boggling.

Hats off RED team!

Sincerely,

I've been wondering the same thing and I wasn't even there. Just the thought of it is enough to make my head spin. great job by everyone involved.

Its a modular design :)

I got a little insight on the setup today at the booth. Super impressed at the methodical planning they put into this. Everything was custom built. Absolutely wonderful seeing those Epic's moving along the line. Bravo to the RED team for an original idea. Many booths at NAB were pretty lame.

You build it elsewhere, you test it, you debug it. You knock it down, you put it up at NAB. Not saying it's easy or cheap, but agreed it's the most impressive thing I've ever seen(1).

And I doubt Jim stood for any union BS. It's like a foreign embassy on US soil; inside that room it was RED sovereign territory and no-one else touched a nut or bolt.

(1) OK maybe THE most impressive thing was a bunch of who-the-heck-are-theys turning up with a wood mock-up, asking for deposits, and getting them :-)

(edited when I saw someone had replaced 'wooden' with 'x'!)

I set up an event once in the LV convention center, and the unions were hardly an issue. They run power and build walls where you need them and leave your specialized equipment alone. I'm sure RED handled the whole load-in themselves. Very impressive setup anyway.

Teradeks booth was pretty close and actually cool too.

I'm just all around pretty impressed by NAB booths in general. I've been demoing at a number of trade shows this year and it's hilarious to see Sony's booth which was I think larger than the entire Siggraph Asia trade show. :D Definitely no second story conference rooms or 30 foot tall helidomes at Siggraph or GDC etc.
