  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - REDRAY IN STOCK

It would be nice to get an affordable 4K projector for this player. Will the Red one ever see the light of day ? Or the darkness of a theater to be more precise ;-)

Hey Jarred - when will an HDMI 2.0 version hit the market? 1.4 seems kinda limiting as it only support 8-bit up to 30 fps.

We already received ours a couple weeks ago, it is working solid with our Sony 84 inch 4K TV. It's the best way to show our RED footage (we have tons naturally) and footage from the world!

I'm a bit disappointed that there's no way to copy .RED files over the network. Having to move them using flash drives is a pain when there is a gigabit ethernet port there. I'm not expecting to stream content (though that should be added too), merely copy files over the network for local playback from the internal 1TB drive.

We dont take your money until stuff ships Michel... so you couldn't of paid in advance. If you have a pre-order, at that $1450 price, then of course you get to buy it now for the lower price.
My order was at $1750 or so (last November or so)... nice price reduction! Hopefully mine shows up soon.

Yup, but it will only 30 Hz max as it doesn't support HDMI 2.0 unlike the Sony 4K TVs do.
Currently REDRAY doesn't support playback of material that would need more than 30hz. But i wonder if there could be a way to combine two of REDRAYs HDMI-ports into one 2.0-port, with a little external addon or something.

Now that this thing is looking like a real release, can we get a little more information on the .RED plug-in for RCX?

Did you guys read the fine print in the email sent out to everyone who pre-ordered a REDRAY player? Specifically:
We do not anticipate any further firmware development for REDRAY so the features you see are the full scope of the REDRAY player.

I'm not so keen on buying a product that has no future on day 1.

Read my first post... we no longer are shipping with a content distribution partner in place so the specs that are on the page are what to expect. We want to make double sure that people are not expecting that when they purchase the REDRAY player as when you made your pre-order that was part of the system ( as well as a higher price tag )

Odemax was not the main reason I was interested in the REDRAY, but the wording of the email indicates that no new functionality will be added. The lack of local network file copying or streaming makes it a pain to use for viewing frequently updated content. If a major new release of iOS requires a revision of the remote app, will that be implemented? Is the .RED format still going to be promoted or should we not waste time outputting content in this format and concentrate on HEVC or whatever? Will any more REDRAY Players be produced after your current stock is sold out?
