NAB '11 "Surprise" Guessing Game

I think it'd be nice if they gave scarlet a full frame sensor but thats just wishful thinking.

Love to see Scarlet for sale or pre-sale at NAB.. Would be a surprise for sure.. Also some talk of FCP support could be coming this nab would be nice.. RAW in FCP would be very powerful.

But what about all the people that can't make it to NAB? Perhaps it would be worth $2800 in travel/accommodation to get first dibs on Scarlet though :P

That's perfectly realistic...

...if you want to get your Scarlet in 2014. For 60% more in price.

I got my travel for me and the wife for under 600 and 99 a night in hotel.
So not to bad so far :)

A 4k monitor for under 4 k would be a surprise..

I hope the surprise is something along the lines of "We already have 20,000 cameras manufactured, you'll get them tomorrow!"...there's always hope :)

I believe that's what the Epic-S is.

Stephen, you know me. I'd put you and Andrew's name on the list right after mine for only only $2,799... This could be a great way for paying for my own camera!

Ha. In all seriousness, I'd definitely be up to signing you guys' name on the list for my friends down under... ;)

$2,799? You'd have to spend it all flying here to hand deliver them!

Seriously, though, it would be amazing if you had the opportunity to do that for us! You are very generous, Joseph. There are, though, Aussie Redusers who actually own cameras who deserve to be further up the list than we do. You might be taking a long list along with you!

Feeling the same. It would be worth the trip from Europe to visit NAB if we known we got the first dibs on Scarlet. But since this is very unlikely I rather save the money for the rig. Would have been super fun to meeting alot of redusers thoe!!!

I'm with all who have talked about 4K monitoring & projection.

This will really complete the pipeline and show the full benefits of RED cameras shooting in higher resolution - something that can only be demonstrated to DP's, Directors and Producers on rare occasions at the moment. It will also make 4K finishing much more viable especially if it is affordable and could be why they are based in the Post area this year. It's be great to have a smaller 4K monitor on set on my DIT cart to make use of the full output res from the RED rocket eventually too!

I have also seen a twitter post with a link to a blog post by a digital projection engineer mentioning he was going to RED to check out a new super duper projector there whilst he was in LA recently...

All EPIC-X kits going out tomorrow (at Nab first day)...
ProRes AND DNxHD Proxy Module...
FinalCut Rocket Support for playback and render
AVID MC 5 Rocket Playback Support
REDRay with optional DCP Playback 2k and 4k as H264...
Projector sounds very nice as well...

Not sure why people keep asking RED for this. It's not their software. It's up to Avid and Apple to implement it.
