Just saw these lenses on ebay > Link

"This is a brand new set of 2.1 prime lenses, the glass is unknowed Mfg."

Can anyone identify these? I'm just curious...

Are those the ones being sold by Stone cine? I think he has the mystery asian connection for rehousing stills lenses for cheap ;-)

You should be able to figure it out through the focal length f-stop combination....

Cheers,

Nick

Stone cine yes. Are they dodgy?

The lenses are 20, 24, 35, 50, 85 in T2.1, I can't think of an SLR lens range with those specs.

$22.000 seems a little steep for lenses that noone has ever heard of, from an unknown manufacturer.

$22k for some "unknown" brand. Google some, and they may turn up for 1/10 of that price :)

To throw in some specualtion -- Could they be rehoused old Olympus OM-lenses? They have f/2 in these focal lengths, except it's a 21mm, not 20.

Other suggestions?

Edit: Beat me by 2min Man!

The only still optics Co. that made a 21mm F2 was Olympus. It was a very good lens though. In fact Olympus made all these focal lengths in f2(T2.1). If that's correct they should be very good lenses. I don't know if they're worth $22K though.

Evin, yes the OM lenses are some of the nicest manual SLR lenses around, the 21mm is a standout. They also made a 250mm f2 which I would love to put on my Red.

Rehousings of these lenses would be interesting, and of course they would also cover FF35. T2.1 set with: 21, 24, 28, 35, 40, 50, 85, 90 macro, 100, 180, 250mm - a good set for Scarlet FF35?

The stonecine offering is still suspect.

I do not know these lenses and can say nothing about them, but I can say that Stone Cine is a reputable company that has been around selling used gear for quite some time.

I got a response from Stone Cine. He confirms that these are rebarreled still lenses; made in Japan; and will cover Vistavision (and FF35).

I'm definitely interested.... I'm just not $22K interested.. :-/

Stone Cine also rent them, they are in Frazier Park, CA.

Now maybe a Reduser in CA wants to rent them and test them and post about it here...?

Wow...covering FF35 might make them pretty popular soon (when Epic & Scarlet FF35s come out). Would be great to see some frame grabs if anyone gets round to it.

these are brand new..hmm i wonder if these are the pl lenses that have been talked about coming out at nab.

Hi,

Ken has been selling those lens sets for a long time now, there is nothing new about his supplier.

Stephen

For these smaller rehousing operations, do they OEM the glass direct from whoever, or do they acquire the complete lens and then scavenge the necessary parts?

Just curious really.

I think NAB will have at least 3 new sets of PL primes with maybe 2 of them being FF. I think 2 of the sets will have glass we already know and love with a 3rd set new from the ground up, those are the mystery primes.....

Depends on the quantity, is it 10 units a year or 1000?

Stone cine told me they have sold "more than 50 sets in the past 25 years". (Hence the lenses are "priced to sell.)

If they are rehoused Olympus, I have noticed Olympus USA are selling vintage lenses on ebay -- so maybe there is a lot of old stock, that the rehousing-people are buying in lots.

It's fun to speculate!

News from ebay: The description now says the glass is indeed Olympus. Price has been reduced to $18k.

Meybe if we wait a few more months, the price will be right...
