Not long ago I got hold of x2 cameras, one Red 1 and the other a Mysterium X, both very low hours (3 to 9hrs).
I have been playing about with the Mysterium X for a few weeks and rather enjoyed the experience, except for on occasion during initialisation, this pink bar would come up on the laft side of the frame, which would disappear a minute during or right after initialisation. I have no idea of the cause, but it seems to originate in the sensor someplace because its recorded on the media. Attached is an image of the "pink stripe".
I did not bother much about it. And what I am about to add next might be totally unrelated to the pink stripe condition.
This evening while going through various menus, at ISO 100, I opted for reset to factory values and instantly monitor ( and HDMI out) went almost totally dark with a slight green tint.
I had to push the iso to well over 1000 to get anywhere to where I was at 100...and that green cast....yakk.

Tried as I might to see which parameter could have caused this huge loss of light and green cat, but to no avail.
Have I just seen the demise of this beautiful beast or am I missing something stupid ?

Ideas anyone?
Thank you.20240213_001344.jpg

Is that green recorded in the footage? Maybe a gamma setting? Refer to the manual and make sure what normal default settings should be and check for REC709 for the display. Maybe try a round of black shade as well?

Hi Zack,
Thank you for replying and sorry for late reply, life's been a rush.
However to get back to the issues:
What had happened was that I had inadvertently erased all lut settings and thereafter proceeded to redo it all up one parameter at a time...tiring but taught me a lesson.
Anyway, the other "issues" remains: Every now and then, on startup, I get this wide pink strip come up on the image, that either goes away after a minute or two, or I shutdown and restart and its gone. Everything else appears to work well.
Annoying.
Oh, Is there a particular version of Redcine-X Pro the RedOne Mysterium X "prefers" ? Thanks again !

If it's recorded in the image then that's an indicator of a sensor issue but if not then it's the video output board. Another option is if you're using a RED monitor then it could be your monitor going out. I had a 5.6 in my kit when I bought mine but then that died out and I replaced it with a 7" RED monitor but then that one pooped out too so I've stuck with HDMI and SDI ever since.

Yes its recorded too, so thought it might be a sensor or sensor signal issue of some sort.
The thing is that it comes occasionally on startup, goes away after a minute and does not return for that runtime.
I bought this MX along with another Redone with some accesories in a number of flight cases. Both cameras had just a few hours each (3 or so).Later I will photograph most of the bits and post them on this forum.
Possibly the lot came from an ex university .
The 1MX that has the pink stripe issue had a loose PL mount and when I had a look and put the mount back on as it should I could see how tricky it is to manage those wires leading to the lens controls.
Its possible that maybe one of the wires is pinched and causing this pink bar , sometimes.
I will have another look at those lens control wires and try to push them all out of the way somehow.
Just a thought.
Thank you Zack for your attention...Oh BTW

The oldest version of RedCine-X Pro online I can see is version 42.
Is this ok for Redone and Redone MX ?

Sorry for the delay, I didn't see the notification pop up until now. I've been using the most recent REDCine-X software and keeping it updated regularly with no problems. I don't do much with it unless I'm previewing a clip to find something so I don't know if any version would be "better" per se. Works fine for me!

As for the pinched wires, that may be a thing but it sounds like either a power thing or maybe a general sensor issue is the culprit. Try to see if the wire issue fixes it but if not I'm not sure there's much more that can be done.

Hi, sorry for late thank you for your reply.
Well I havent yet found the patience to have a go at dealing with occasional pink stripe on switch on, but hope to soon.
Is there anyone who services these "machines" ?
In the same vein I ask if its at all possible to upgrade a One to a One MX in any way ?
Red doesnt support the one anymore of course but wondered if this was a soft firm ware upgrade only or does it involve a hardware part change ( sensor I guess).

The upgrade from One to One MX required new hardware. A lot of us in the early years bought our Ones and then, when the MX upgrade became available, sent them in for the new sensors.

I sort of miss our Ones. . . they were beasts!

my One is almost brand "new" just some hours of use.
I also have a ONE mx, and was wondering what the mx upgrade was about.
Was the MX sensor the only hardware change?

There were also some audio upgrades done at the same time if memory serves, but that was 15 years ago for us, so that's a long time to remember. It was a wonderful camera, but things have definitely improved over the years, as well.

Hi Zack i just recently ordered a 7 inch pro monitor from ebay.... now reading that monitor can die easily i am worried... when you said your pooped out did it cracked or just stopped working?

Hey, Prime Leon, it looks like you wrapped your question in a reply there but yeah I ordered our RED One MX kit that came with a 5.6 monitor that had a bad screen so I ordered a supposedly good condition RED 7" monitor and it did work great for several months of testing and getting familiar with the camera. The next time I put it on to use the camera to start setting up some serious work for our feature film, it just stopped working. It had been babied by me in its hard shell foam case and was working perfectly so it really was "out of the blue"-dead for no reason. After that I bought a nice 7" Feelworld HDMI monitor and made our movie with that, it was great and much brighter but I did have to dangle a Sony battery on the back of it which added weight and the occasional slip and play with the shoe adapter. At this point I would probably add a bigger monitor like the 10" or 12" Lilliput A11 or A12 to help see the 720p feed better as it was occasionally hard to tell focus on a 7" monitor.

Thank you for your swift reply, I recently bought two red one mx pl mount, one came with full package except v mount battery, also came with a bonus old vintage Russian glass mir 37mm the second one didn't, I have been buying parts so that I can make use of it as a B cam. for feature film I am planning too film, I bought a feelword 4k 7inch monitor, I noticed the screen resolution is different from that of red’s monitor, I don't want confusion tweaking Cam B settings to match Cam A I also hate powering the monitor with battery. Red one mx is a slow cam switching and charging the monitor battery will slow me down. I have mainly the red hard drive, I saw somewhere that if I don't monitor my V-mount battery from the battery level if the camera shuts down the recording on it, will corrupt, is this true?

Yeah that can happen. We used a mix of slim 90-something V-mount batteries and large Dynacore batteries, I want to say they were 290 or 310? (They were orange sticker models, probably old versions)

Needless to say, the RED One MX is not a camera that's light on its feet. However, it's not difficult to use, set your resolution/quality selection, standard shutter speed, color space, ISO, and press record, no need to fiddle with it so much. As for the monitor, it's probably because it's a really nice output from the RED LCD port with everything scaled properly unlike HDMI and SDI outputs, it is what it is though since they didn't let third-parties have a crack at the RED LCD port. You will be juggling batteries with this camera unless you use big ones like we did where two of them gave us roughly four hours each for our 8-hour days and we made sure to charge the depleted one when switching just in case we needed a little more time. Consider the AC adapter too if you can, it can come in handy if you have to forgo the big batteries with traveling for example.
