  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My take on the Zeiss CP's

Thanks for sharing Jon. Have you had experience with the EF's?

I'm sorry, I meant the Zeiss ZE series. We're swimming in lens thoughts right now!

Ha! Yes I love the ZE. Actually used the ZF version with a Nikon to Canon adapter. The ZE is great for less money, however I feel the ergonomics of the CP's are worth the extra money. Also, I found the ZE/ZF glass has some Chromatic aberration issues. The uniform front diameter, marked focus ring, de-clicked aperature, and overall increased durability is what you pay for. For me it makes shooting on the DSLR's so much easier. However, the ZE lenses are still great for video and phenomenal for stills. It took me a few weeks to master shooting stills on a fully manual lens but when you nail your focus its sharper than the best AF system IMO.

Thanks Jon- that is about what we were expecting to hear. Really neat thing Zeiss did there. I LOVE fully manual glass!

Did you use the lenses on PL, then switch back and forth between the mounts? how do they hold collimation?

I did not. Zeiss shipped to me set up for the 5D and 7D. I'd be curious to see how long and hard it is to swap out the mounts. I've heard that is one of the complaints of the lenses.
