Hello all, haven't posted here in a while as it's been a few years since I've owned a Scarlet, but here's my micro-budget ($35K and about 15 days of shooting) 80's creature-feature homage "All The Devils Are Here" which I shot on my Scarlet MX a little over four years ago (there are also a handful of hacked 5Dmk3 & Blackmagic Design shots scattered throughout).

If you rent or purchase the film you can use this thread as an AMA regarding the production, post, or distribution processes (or you can ream me out if you hate the movie :yesnod:). I passed on a few mid-tier studio offers, which had low or no MG's, and went with Distribber for self-distribution instead.

Great writeup at NFS! I missed it the first time around. Horror is not my genre, but great kudos to your ingenuity, teamwork, and drive!

I loved the photo of your BMPCC riding atop the SCARLET.

Thanks Michael! It certainly helps when time & budget are strict. I'm currently doing the same with an Ursa Mini 4.6K & GX85.

I really hope you've learned who Rad Bradbury is by now. That made me a bit sad. :/

That made a lot of people sad, so I bought & read the Martian Chronicles. I have an immense amount of respect for his poetic prose and storytelling abilities, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Unfortunately I'm more of the "entertained by exploding dicks" type. I'd take a novelized version of this clip over a Bradbury book any day of the week : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSPzsV2YN6Q

That NFS article was really great. I have a question on cutting IR noise. How did you know you had IR noise? What exactly should I look for in my MX footage? I often feel my MX footage has a kind of milky texture in sunlight, is that it?

Thanks Jim, it would be pretty clear due to a reddish/purple cast over your image when using ND filters. If you white balance & especially throw an LUT on top of the image on set, you'll likely know if you have IR pollution.

Black objects probably stood out the most as being polluted, so if there is nothing black in your frame, have something on deck to throw in front of the camera.

I now use Formatt Firecrest NDs (I used the older Formatt IRNDs when I shot Devils). I believe Firecrests work well for both Blackmagic and Red cameras (somebody correct me if I'm wrong...been out of the Red game for a while).

Firecrests are still going for half price on B&H if you want to stock up!
