I currently own a Canon 7D with assorted primes and an HVX. The 7D I use for personal artistic work while the HVX I use mostly for business. I have some money set aside for a Scarlet 2/3" fixed lens kit as I can use it on personal projects and make money off of it doing run and gun documentary stuff like I do with the HVX. However, now that I have my set of Canon primes I'm seriously tempted to go with the S35 Scarlet, but two problems I have with that are that I probably won't be able to afford a more elaborate rig and also I'm not sure I can make as much as I could with the 2/3" fixed zoom lens.

Anyone else faced with a similar decision? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get the fixed, use it to shoot awesome footage and make some money. Keep the Canon glass and the 7d for shooting stills. When you start making money with the fixed Scarlet kit you can invest in more modules and overall better gear. When you feel like the fixed has payed for itself and made some extra $$$ then just go for the s35 brain(epic or scarlet) and keep using all the accessories(and glass) you already have.

I think it would be a great idea to wait until there is an actual product for sale. Until it's on the RED store, I wouldn't worry to much about it. If you don't own an R1 now, you'll have plenty of time to make this decision.

If you're going to be doing run and gun projects you're better off with the 2/3 fixed.

How many primes do you have? If you have around your basic 3 then get the fixed. If you have 5 or more get the 2/3 non fixed with electronic mount. And if you have 6 or more then work with the HVX and buy the S35 when it comes out.
