  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My redroket can not play full 4k in my mac

Hello,

The Mac RAID card is a pretty expensive and poor performing solution (to let you know).

How do you have your CalDigit HDPro setup? Did you check those settings I mentioned in my previous post? Maybe a few screen shots using the RAID Shield.app from CalDigit of the HDPro settings?

To be clear, whenever you are playing any video from the HDPro array in RedCine-X (version 2.58), it doesn't play properly at 23.98 fps when viewing on your monitor?

Can you give more information on the clips you are playing? Specifically resolution, fps, etc..

Thanks!

ATF

Need to play 4k @25fps and 4.5k @25fps ... has same issue.

Thanks

so why red didnot mention that :(

4k out of the card to a 4k monitor works fine on the machine.
4k playback through the card into a machine and out the graphics card is dependent on many things. We can't test and make notes for every machine type and combination out there.

In my opinion RED Should mention the minimum system required to play full 4k in the mac pro, which version is compatible with full 4k play , and i am sorry to tel you that dear :( ... you mean i should buy new mac !! hhhhhh

I am curious as to how you're planning out 4k to the computer-monitor. What GPU supports that, and what kind of screen/projector do you have.

Why is it a problem to play out from the card?

This just out of curiosity.

dear, i am talking about playing full 4k not out from the card
play directly in red cine x i mean in apple computer 24'' monitor .
:nonod:

But that monitor cannot show you 4k..., it actually tops out @ 1080, so you'd need 4 of thos e to display 4k... If your GPU could handle 4 screens, that is...

If it is for projection, you should really go with the SDIs or DVIs on the card...

hi

i try to play full 4k but My redroket can not play full 4k smoothly in my mac
why?????
if i play the 1/2 of 4k it play smoothly and fine

thanks

Are you talking about the playback on the desktop? That will not playback full 4k anyway. Full debayer playback is provided on from the RR's output.

no not really
try to export 4k in apple ProRes and try to play it in your computer
it will play...

But it needs to be scaled to fit on your desktop. What is the difference between sending full rez 4k to your graphics card and making that scale it to fit on the desktop, and letting the Rocket scale it and sending the graphics card a version which already fits the desktop?

Remember the Rocket always does a "full high" de-Bayer. When you choose "half" in REDcineX with a Rocket you are telling the Rocket to scale to half size from a full 4k de-Bayer, not asking it to decode at half size.

please try to choose in redcine x full view and check the picture details.

It's true (@ least in Rocketcine-x) that when you choose 1/2 & 1/4, you only get those previews over DVI/GPU, but that doesn't afect rendering.

Over SDI/the rocket cards outputs, it is allways full.

I suggest you connect a monitor (dvi/sdi/hdmi) to the rockets outputs, as it sounds like that is the effect you really want...

Clearly there is more picture detail when you zoom in to 1:1 on a full 4k image than when you do the same to one which has been scaled to 50%.

However the only time this make a real difference is if you set the scale to 100% and try and play back looking at a pixel for pixel window on the image. Is this what you are trying to do? Maybe to check focus? I would agree that the fact that some systems are not fast enough to do this is frustrating.

However for normal full screen playback the difference between "1/2" and "Full" is negligible. If you go to full screen mode, set scale to "Fit Both", and toggle between "1/2" and "Full" you will see virtually no difference.
