My red one mx journey

Hello very Dear Karim, I really love and appreciate your videos, just for information, ask for how your Red One MX, and where can you find here have very good price, thank you.

okay I see.
As you must have noticed red has stopped producing the mx model.
So you can now only find the mx second hand.

Some user post threads selling here under the red one section of this board:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?4-RED-ONE

Otherwise there is the stuff for sale section specifically made fore that purpose:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?69-RED-stuff-for-sale

Be careful to protect yourself when buying from strangers of course.

And finally there are a couple for sale on ebay.

But why would you want the mx specifically?
Maybe the scarlet would suit your needs fine and you can get it new.

Hi thank you for the links, I at the very beginning I rotate with the 5D Mark II and the Panasonic AG-AF 101E, and I'm crazy and my dream of having a Red, according to my research is the cheapest, that's why I am Film Director and Cameraman what I have my own box Productions "Imagine Productions," I want advice, thank you.

Here is a first test on the mx with the 16f anamorphic lens.

I purposely did not shoot in 4k anamorphic but rather in 4kws.
Simply because I wanted to try a different picture ratio for a change.

This ratio would not be very pleasing to watch as a feature film.
But it is an interesting exercise composition wise and has an interesting look for short clips such as this one.

I like this super wide field of view.

Once again just my friend the camera and me no light nor reflector.
This was a low light test shot at 1.8 aperture to familiarize myself with the sensor.

The parking lights were very dim, but the mx had enough sensitivity to handle those condition as long as the talent was not too far away from the ceiling lights.
Quality wise, taking into account sharpness and noise, I would say the first walking shot is good enough.

The other two in the car show the limits of the sensor though (as expected).
But there was really very little light that made it inside the car to begin with.
Those shots have too much noise to be usable on anything bigger than an hdtv.

I will get more shots with the 16f (pretty good lens).
With the 4k ana mode next time.

thanks for watching

Hi Karim, thank you, yes, yet with the ambient light, and Anamorphic gives a beautiful picture in low light, you're anything like optic with.

thank you.
"anything like optic with" are you asking about the other lens?

I coupled the 16f with the nikon 85mm 1.8.

It is a dual lens setup, the anamorphic lens is attached in front of the regular lens.
So you have to focus on both and getting the subject to be very sharp is difficult.
And you have to make sure the anamorphic lens is not crooked and is totally straight otherwise the perspective is skewed.

See this example (not mine) where the anamorphic lens on the left is attached via the red ring to the regular lens on the right:

It is not a very good workflow but the advantage is that you can use your available photo lenses and those small anamorphic are cheap.

The best worry free workflow would be to rent a lens such as this:

honestly thank you for the advice and all that is technical, with thee I learn, thank you so much, there enthusiasm to train me to website, which I find very

you are very much welcome.
This is the purpose of this thread.
I am still learning myself so I share my journey hoping to trade some info with others.

Here is my latest test:

* edit I deleted this video because it was a failed experiment

Hi Karim, yes I love this style of picture, just like sincity, trying to sound and music, it is to 50% of the charm of the videos, I also like that here either monochrome (black and white) is also strong, as this example with anamorphic :

Wow man, latest test looks really awesome. Was that the same Anamorph you mentioned earlier?

You are absolutely right. There so much involved in making a good movie.
I am working on the photographic aspect only at the moment and I have my hands full with that already.
And as you must have noticed I am using fixed shots every time, when you start to move camera things get so much more complicated already!

On step at the time ;-)

Thank you, yes I own the 16F so I used it on both. I should have new tests with the la7200 soon.

If you want good information on the vintage anamorphics that are available you should go to http://www.eoshd.com, they have an anamorphic section with lots of enthusiasts members.

The only advantage of those is price, they are cheap, but they are old and not 100% sharp and you have to focus both lenses.

The ideal would be to rent an anamorphic lens like the one I posted in post 25.
I will try one when I get the chance.

Here is the latest test to date:

I gave a shot at a quick portrait with the mx in a controlled light environment.

This is were any camera would shine, but damn!
The picture quality is amazing even at 4k.

The images were plenty sharp and I did not need to sharpen in post at all.

In terms of image quality those are the best images I was able to pull out of the mx as of now.

Starting to get more comfortable with the camera. :-)

Very, very cool

Thank you Nick much appreciated.

I think I could have gotten a little more depth of field because I was not fully closed down.

Can't tell which aperture I was at though since I use the optitek nikon pro lock mount.

So in terms of how close you can get this is a good representation for this lens, but in terms of depth of field you should be able to get a little more but you would need a lot of light.

Those are very nice. Glad My Red One is still here and thanks for sharing.

thank you!

So today was a gear test, steady cam.
Ended up not having any actor to shoot today but we are shooting again tomorrow.

Looking forward to being efficient with the steady cam and not being constrained to the tripod as I was until now.
Really enjoy moving shots.

These are the first and far from perfect ones, but since this is my learning journey I thought I would share anyways.
Steady cam requires practice.
Hopefully we will be better on our second try tomorrow.

Day 2 of steady cam practice :-)

We first wanted to use this small vintage 24 mm lens but we found out on set that the aperture ring was broken:

steady_1.jpg

So we ended up using my 24-70 lens like yesterday which was not ideal but fine.

steady_2.jpg

I was first in line with steady cam operation, but I was very happy to have my friend take over once my back was killing me after a couple scenes.
The setup with the mx is quite taxing on the body.

I enjoyed so much working with sunlight and directing.
I am very pleased with the results.
This camera does not stop to amaze me.
