  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dear people, recently (as I was unable to write here until today) I wrote an article in DVX user about the 15 to 17 Stops ion dynamic range I've got on Thursday 2th Jully, within my recent purchase, a Ranger S35 (Helium) 8K

First of all , I need to introduce myself, I am Alejandro Martín, ex Cinemartin. I was and I still have a great devote to RED cams, to Jannard, Jarred and Brian H.

Then the spot

Above video was shot with the Ranger. See my bench setup and results more detailed here: https://www.dvxuser.com/threads/red...stops-usable-over-noise.5712902/#post-5722158

Below video was shot with my CineAlta F65 (which test shown me 17 stops). See my test setup and detailed results on F65 here: https://www.dvxuser.com/threads/sony-cinealta-f65-dynamic-range-bench.5712893/

Attached grabs (most notable screenshots) of my tests.

Below shows 15 ["usable" (to me)],
Look at the 1stop is over (one pure step/stop over base noise line) , but if you see the peak at the bottom left of the one marked as #1, then means that this stop is in SNR , so

The really usable Stops of Red Range Helium, at best compression ratio, at 8K, to me 15.5, I'm saying to me s "usable" is a relative word. Who's better bigger or more bigger ? no one can define unless quantified.. but that's other history, of us all.

If you count within the noise, then, to me, is between 16-17 stops.

I must add that Rager , to me at least, is better than DSMC3 in compression, as it has up to 2.1, user selectable, while DMSC3 tops at HQ, which, correct me if I am wrong, max at 330 MBps, while DSMC 2 max is 525 MBps (just the same as SRMemory used on F65).

Why ? cause old SSD sata drives, mort profesionals were Q1T1, which means sequential data is stored at max speed, vs the current TLC's, that are not pro at all, at least to me.

I have on my system a Intel Optane, which is the best in its clase, better than SLC but thta's another history.

Well, not sure, if to say anything more.

Open to discussion, with respect
