  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My post about Wooden Camera accessories was deleted, why?

Wait a minute....Ryan are you saying that your contract with this website was cancelled by someone other than yourself? did you violate the terms of your agreement? I would really like to know the reason behind this. I really hope this is not what it looks like because that would really put a huge gash in my respect for "the powers that be" I know there are others sellers on here that have legit businesses and have been selling equipment here without a sponsorship like jeff roberts for quite some time, much longer than Wooden camera has been in the business of making epic parts I believe.
 
WC for life! I love that I can order something and get it shipped same day. Being in the Houston area, I also get it the next day.

I wonder if it was just an accident that RED canceled the sponsorship with Ryan? I just don't see them doing this? Very un-RED like

No accident and very RED-like. RED is a successful corporation who is not in the business of making things easy for competitors. WC and View Factor both compete directly with RED's accessory products. I would expect posts for VF's FMJ to be deleted in the near future as RED is able to ship their own accessories. Capitalism 101: the goal of any corporation is to become a monopoly so they can charge the maximum while providing the minimum. I think REDusers here are confusing RED with some kind of charity or rich uncle fantasy.

I honestly do not know why WC's sponsorship deal was cancelled, but please do not jump to conclusions.

This policy applies to all post discussion cameras not made by RED. And this was not done to shut out the competition, but simply to keep the forum on subject. Those discussions often ended up way more emotional/inflammatory than informational.

Well this is not the way we will get more open discussion on the forum. I fear the thread will be closed and you give them the argument.

Would be better to have a real open talk and not highly speculative attacks... ;-)

Over 1000 posts in just 4 months. Wow.

If you had been around reduser in the pre-Scarlet days, you would know that its main purpose is not to promote RED products. It's purpose was to discuss RED products, so that they could become what we as users needed. Heck, look at the forum today and you will see people openly discussing bugs, and then there is a section for complaints. Please provide us with a link to another camera manufacturer that even comes close in openness to RED.

Please, do not spread incorrect information. Reduser is not owned by RED. Look at the bottom of each page, there you'll see that reduser is run and owned by Landmine Media (which is run by Jarred). When Jarred started reduser, Jim made it clear that it would *not* be financed by RED, and it is therefore that we have sponsorship deals.

Calling someone who has a different point of view child-like is a really grown up oratory technique.

Josh, remind me never to do business with you. Your view of how business is conducted is not only jaded but tells me that ethics may not be your strong suit.

I would like to clear up my "child like" comment. Was not intended to be an insult: it is extremely naive to think that RED is going to give a foothold to a direct competitor like WC or VF. Did Jim give Nike any breaks when growing Oakley? Probably not. Also, to me thinking that RU is an "open forum" is not supported by reality or most people's expectations. RU is the primary marketing interface with their customers - in a very competitive industry. No secret, mystery or crime there.

I don't expect to see threads spouting the virtues of Arri, Canon or JVC here. My expectation is that Jared and the team will manage RU in a way that is singularly beneficial to the company he runs. As RED grows their accessory line I would fully expect a successful and savvy company like RED to discontinue threads about competing products. Much like they currently do for competing camera bodies. No big deal and certainly what I would expect from smart businessmen like Jim and Jared.

If this all sounds ugly and business like - it is. RED competes with some of the most aggressive, biggest companies on the planet who want nothing more than for RED to fail. You don't win being a soft touch nice guy. Go RED - kick their ass!

You misunderstand me sir - I would suggest taking an college level economics course to see how the world works and why the Occupy folks are upset. As for doing business with me: I ran and sold a very successful business after 20 years which was conducted at the very highest level of moral conduct. Those who did business with me were professionally and economically elevated by the relationship - with very, very few exceptions. It is not I who is attacking or making negative assumptions about personal ethics here.

Without a definitive explanation of why WC no longer acts as a sponsor of Reduser, I fear this thread isnt going to go much further.
Sponsors get to advertise, non sponsors dont. Interpretation of what makes a post "advertising" is down to the moderators.

Ive personally never worked on two Rigs with the exact same parts in the 4 years Ive been working with Red cameras in their various shapes or forms.

Theres always a different combination of WC, ET, VF, Zacuto, Redrock, Arri parts etc on each kit. Theres is, and always has been room for everyone in this market, and I seriously doubt it is a conspiracy to push the home team products.

I like wooden camera, they make good stuff. Ive bought from them in the past for our Epics, and shall be buying from them again this month to finish kitting out my Scarlet. I will also be buying from RED, and Viewfactor again in the future.

Lets move on.
