  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My latest short.. I think I posted stills a while back

Hey Zakaree, first off great work! I loved the lighting on this new one. What kind of lights were you using? Second, I love how you shot "Whoopie". What were you using for your car mount rig? Thanks for sharing Zak! Awesome work!

Best,

-John

Thanks. First off.. I got boned on abaddon.. I self funded it, and the guy I hired to bring out G&E showed up with 50% of what I asked for.. In Fact I had to scramble last min to go pick up a honda generator (and it was loud, we did no sound recording on set).. My lighting was reduced to a 1200w HMI, 575w HMI, 3 kino's, 24'' china ball with daylight globe, various grip stuff like an 8x8 ultra bounce, It was difficult, I wanted to light a lot more of the background, but just didn't have what I needed, so I was forced to come up with a way to shoot it, that would make it work.

whoopee was fun, I Basically mounted a bunch of reflectors around the car to bounce sun into the car, diffused what I needed too.
Inside I had a Daylight Balanced LED panel to help fill in some light.

it was a ridiculous looking set up, but thats what no budgets do:)

standard camera car mount, suctions cups, hostess tray situation for the camera

Could you go into some more detail about the camera mount? I had a short film I was aiming to shoot but I realised I was a bit in over my head by having a scene with 4 people in a car a 5 door hatchback no less having a chat.

on my short comedy with the guy and girl, it was a standard hostess tray for the side. And a regular plate and suction plate camera hood mount .

on the new one abaddon, i had no mount.. car was never moving except in the wide.. i was sitting on the hood, camera on a sandbag, and had a couple people rocking the truck

Dude, that was great! Nice work :) I also loved your lighting...it's easy to over light a scene like this but you nailed it! Perfect :) Only thing I could suggest is in the grade - just watch the saturation of your just-above-black-blues in some of the shots.
