  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My first video on RED. On my new BT Scarlet.

Thanks guys! Glad you like it.

Very nice. Don't be afraid to push the r3d footage, you'll be surprised what you can get out of it.

Because of the quick turnaround, I didn't really get to grade it properly like I would've liked to. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to work with the raw data is. I did this all in Premiere using the R3D tools, Colorista, and Filmconvert. I normally have much more intricate grades with photoshop for my other video. Coming from a stills background, i'm a bit disappointed in the raw tools that come in redcine-x and premiere. I'm going to be heading into Resolve soon, so I'm expecting that to be much more intricate - I'm mostly a photographer so, I just wish they had the same kind of intricate raw tools that Lightroom or PS has.

Available light goodness! The opening shot reminded me of one particular expired 35mm film roll I shot and developed like year ago in June, I thought the neg would turn out shit, but once I scanned it I was in awe, colors weren't shifted or faded all that much, but it absolutely had similar look (plus some photochemical artifacts, obviously), I really dig that look now and trying to re-create with digital. Even the web compression couldn't ruin all of it. Thank you for this post!

One thing only. You can get rid of all that noise simply by setting the ISO to 320 and exposing to the right. Than you compress the blacks on post. Let me know if you need help n that.

I'm still experimenting with the ISO and noise levels, thanks for the tip though! Sounds like a solid solution.

Just out of curiousity which lenses did you use for this project? tons of good color correction in this piece

Very cool piece Jeremy, thanks for sharing. Be thankful for what you have everyday, must people forget this and even me from time to time - things can change in an instant and we need to constantly be thankful for all we have in our lives. Great piece and best wishes for your future projects with your new RED, you're going to love it.

Hey Jonathan. People on this site aren't gonna like it, but I just used canon glass for this: 28mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4, and 135mm 2.0
I understand it's not as sharp as it could be, I just needed to film something fast for this. Glad you like the grading, it was all only in premiere - I think I might take it through davinci once I get all that figure out.

Nice piece man. Really liked it.

No-one gonna judge you for using Canon glass, its quick, cheap, light and easy. A lot of REDUSERs shoot on canon lenses (granted they are usually L-series but hey). You got nice results and it wasn't shot for exhibition.
