Hey guys. So, finally, I will be making to move to RED, with the RED Raven.

Nice to be part of a knowledgeable community, and thats exactly why I came here to ask a question.

Right now the BaseI/O package seems to be what I need but, it wont fully cut it. I also need XLR inputs, but the XLR module is 3k?

There isnt a simpler XLR module? I could have sworn ive seen one on set before.

One last thing I need is to be able to power my camera with my Anton Bauer Batteries, to avoid having to buy redvolts.

To recap:

1. Need 2 simple XLR inputs

2. Need gold mount capability.

So, my question to you RED pro's is, what exactly do i need to order.

I appreciate the help!

The only XLR module is $3950, which is the Redvolt Expander. Pretty silly considering us newcomers don't use Redvolts, which renders the unit undesirable and far from economic.

That's it. The only options at the moment. :/

With the RAVEN I/O package the best your going to get is a single input and you would need this http://www.red.com/store/products/xlr-microphone-cable-20or similar to get XLR. Not ideal but works and will be the route I go at first until maybe a third party module is released, like what Mark speaks of here... ;)
I'm finalizing audio board next week - so, I can't answer that yet. Stepping up the audio a bit so I have a bad ass solution for an audio-only module for RAVEN for the doc/news folks.

But, for example, one low cost OMOD we think will be very popular for RAVEN market is this -

Pro Audio Board w/2x full size XLRs
1 x HDMI
1 x HDSDI
DC power input
USB power out
2-pin LEMO power out
Serial (CRTL)

direct attach OMOD battery plate w/PTAP (AB/Gold Mount or V-Mount)

I forgot to mention, Mark over at OffHollywood is working on 3rd party modules that will have proper audio boards (phantom power I assume) with dual XLR jacks. Pretty excited about this.

Abox?

Thank for your comments guys. ^^^ Brian... The Abox... ive heard of this.. Doesnt this have dual XLR ports?

Im surprised there isnt a cheaper solution to this yet..

Anyways, so while that gets sorted out... What is it that I need to be able to power my unit with my Anton Bauers?

Thanks!

Actually wait. The Abox from woodncamra would be exactly what I need..

They also have all sorts of modules I could use to then power my camera by Anton Beauers..

Guess im going with woodncamra for most these add ons?

Any tips and suggestions would be highly appreciated!

If I'm not mistaken, the Epic/Scarlet A-Box uses dual 3.5mm, while Raven only uses one. So it's only half usable.

More appropriate would be the BM Pocket version, which combines dual XLR into single stereo 3.5mm.

Completely spaced the A-Box, good call! Just remember no phantom power still.

I even used little mini 3.5 to xlr adaptors before. Not sure the brand its a cord probably even cheaper

Like Jason said, A-Box is a good option, and like he said don't have phantom power, and a lot of times is a must, so look out for that.

Yes the Abox is dual, but I'm sure Ryan is cooking something up now. Cool people and local to me thankfully.

I always use extra recorder attached on the V mount battery. All my V mount batteries were taped by industry strong velcro. My Dr70d can do Mix and out put clean audio to Red, FS7, A7RII. The recorder can be battery powered by 5v to USB buspower - Which require V mount or Gold mount - But hey, we all use v mount, gold mount batteries :)

It has 4 Channel xlr inputs - 2-3 Lav with a shotgun - perfect for small interview set up.

I love this set up so much.

When I use FS7 for big interview set up. I put two hyper Cardiodic on both left and right (2channel), and 4 lavs on the recorder than mixed into one channel microphone and internal mic for 1 channel.

Than I will have 4 channel microphone that will be recorded in the camera, but running 7 microphones in total :)

I used this trick, and always make extra 300$ per a day for the interview, doc gig - I am sorry to my sound guys, but... come on. it's cool to run two department for what it is.

Congratulations on your order Carlos!

I know I'm a bit late for the Raven reveal party but I have just placed my order too.

I was considering a few different options, but in the end, seeing how active and helpful the RED community are on this forum (+ the very responsive RED guys) really made it an easy decision to go for the Raven.

Very much looking forward to March now (or a bit later, since i'm probably in a very long queue) to get my hands on this camera, and I hope to be sharing some interesting content with you all at some point.

In the mean time, I'll be trawling through these forums for Raven updates/reviews to keep myself occupied. :)

I think the best thing to do right now is put in the deposit for the Brain. And wait to see what happens between now and March.

Anyone else doing this? Will it come out to be any more expensive if I do it this way?

Thanks guys. Appreciate your advice.

i suppose you could do that, i figured i would put down a $1000 on a package and save my spot in line, even if i was only gonna get the brain, may as well put down the money, your gonna need accessories either way

There's a new ABox for DSMC2 that has a single stereo 1/8" to dual XLR. No phantom power. If you really need that, your cheapest option is to strap an H4n to camera, feed the mics into it, and use the stereo 1/8" headphone jack to feed scratch to camera.
