Obin,

I spotted Red everywhere on the set where the camera was shown with very few exceptions (Technocranes, etc.); so I do agree that Red played a big role on this movie...which I am planning to see tomorrow midnight!!!

What R U guys talking about????
Red is and will always be a small personal camera. It is just that the market share of small, like "home made", productions will grow, due to the internet and other channels of distribution (see blip.tv).
This forum and the countdown for the announcement is all a mater of marketing.
Open up your eyes, you are part of the marketing of Red.
And it is all legitimate.

OK... Knowing (Nicolas cage movie to be released next Jan/09) is part of a small home production. It only used Red One for a 100% of footage acquisition...:bye2: See you at the Oscars (hopefully one day...):whistling:

The new bond film was shot with Dalsa Revolution cameras, which are now part of Arri's lineup.

Bond is owned by MGM, which is owned by Sony. Sony doesn't really like Red, so the decision seems a bit political to me, seeing as how the Dalsa is a hell of a lot more work and more money than shooting 35mm...

Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace

I just read an interview with Roberto Schaefer ASC in American Cinematographer. Roberto was the DP for Quantum of Solace. They shot most all principal photography spherical with Arri 35mm cameras shooting 3 perf (1st unit) and 4 perf (2nd unit). Dalsa (origin), and Sony F900R cameras were used by the VFX DP for a skydiving sequence.

John,
From the article you mentioned "...Apparently there is one scene that requires (as the production company says) ‘Technically ambitious visual effects’. To achieve this one scene eight DALSA 4K with shutter synchronization were simultaneously employed."

In this forum, and also in the Red web site, there were rumors and quotes like Red was in Euro 2008, Jumper was shot with Red etc.
Red owner refuse to see the simple facts; Red is a nice little camera (a toy as I once called it) with a very nice image if you know your way around its post but it is an "indie" market camera. It will never get into the big players game.
So far, with more than 5000 units out, the camera didn't break into the industry.
Since there are 5000 units it will never break the industry barriers simply because of the fact that there are ... too many units!!! A common paradox.
As I wrote the "indie" market is getting bigger, due to the internet and other channels of distribution, the big screen in shrinking and probably will continue in that way (yes I know IMAX etc. these are only efforts to save the big screen and I am not saying it will vanish, there will be fewer movie theatre in the next couple tens years.
That is were Red is finding its place.
In this light Red and Mr. Jannard came out with their Red One camera.
He is a master in marketing, a genius, I take my hat off for that. What ever he does is part of a marketing strategy, legitimate and blessed.
The hype that this forum sometimes make about all kind of dim rumors is childish in a way and result from a bored society .... I don't think we would discuss in deep details all those pale sallow rumors if we were busy working. Please note that I don't exclude myself.
Since times are not easy, I, myself, should concentrate in getting more work for my cameras and lenses.

GDV,

With respect, you will be seeing studio releases that where shot on RED in 2008 being released in 2009.

I have personally worked on 3 features that are 100 percent RED cameras for main unit as well as other features that have used RED for VFX plates, aerials etc.

So GDV post with your real name, and tell us what you have done.

Hi,

I never understand why people claim Red was used even on projects when clearly it was not. It's very counter productive IMHO, as time goes on more projects shot on Red will get a release. Most major films still use 35mm film, it still works quite well.

Well, I have a Red One and I think I can recognize it. The music video was shot using one; just go and see the behind the scene footage...

I will be happy to be wrong.
What do you mean by "..what have you done..."
I have done very little with Red.

obin,

Think your joke went over the heads of some.

Bond QoS, was shot on film, with 8 Dalsa Origins used for a single VFX shot.

Yes, and that is why this forum can be so annoying and useless sometimes.
But it does serve nicely some marketing needs... spreading words, rumors etc.
