Hi All

I've got a FCP edit coming up that is going to be shot on a MX camera. I understand the color science has been changed, will Apple Color have any issues dealing with the R3D files generated, or is Redcine X the only option for grading?

Thanks
Dan

If you use the new Color framework, which is in a thread by RED's Rob Lohman here on reduser, then you can handle any M-X footage.

I believe there is also limited support for 4.5 K in COlor as well.

David

Release notes:

Added support for the new Mysterium-X sensor

Added support for the new FLUT color science. This plugin will only do the new color science. If you need to use old color science with an existing project you should not upgrade to this version of the plugin or restore an older version when you switch back to an old project.

Added support for the new REDgamma gamma space and REDcolor color space

Added support for 4.5K footage. Clips recorded at 4.5K (4480 x 1920) will load as if they were shot with a resolution of 2240 x 960 due to Apple Color being limited to 4K maximum resolution. Half resolution decodes for 4.5K footage will not go through any debayer.

ISO list does not go beyond ISO 2000. Any clips shot at a higher ISO will be clamped to ISO 2000

Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is no longer supported with this release

Thanks for the quick response David. Just to be clear, is the "Apple Color REDCODE plugin 4.0 beta 2" that Rob posted back in February the latest framework for Color?

Hi David,

Do you know without adjusting with the FLUT and shadows controls, then the new Color plug-in (and only adjusting in RED tab) and the REDCINE-X would render the same image or not?

Thanks David, that is what I thought.

Clipfinder probably excel because of the OLPF compensation is on and Apple Color is missing it at this point. Little bit of sharpness addition in the FX room helps to make it look sharper like you have the OLPF on.

Exactly what I do. Sharpen to taste in the Color FX room on the last pass.

I knew you knew ;).

Hi guys, my problem is:
I am not getting the same colors on my projection which on apple Cinema display monitor?
My workflow is 4k R3d to FCP in 2k and after edit goes to Color 1.5 then back to FCP and FCP to giving output 2k, HD for projection and DV for TV telecast.
Yes, I am not using RED cine-X. Is it necessary to go R3D to RED cine-X and then FCP? or R3D to FCP and after edit via RED cine-X to color?
Is there any option direct from color 1.5 to take 2k, HD, DVD output?
We are using in red r3d footage in color. Color space :-Red space and Gama :- Red Space in primary in room and we are not using primary out it is necessary or not for output?
My movie release date is first week of June, so I am worry.
I hope you guys will replay me as soon as possible with correct Suggestion.
Thanks,

Please see my post in the other thread to your identical question. Color 1.3 can ingest 4K, but only Color 1.5 can output 4K.

Also

ate you working in DV codec in Color? You do realize that dv is a standard def codec and HD and sd operate in different color spaces, right?

Also, for broadcast work you should consider monitoring through something like a Kona Card and a broadcast monitor.
