  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Music Video slow motion

can I also get a PM? :)

can I also get a PM? :)

I am also curious on the speeds in which I would need to not have audio drift.

Thank you!

This topic doesn't have to be private, does it? I'm sure we could all learn a lot from an open discussion.

I would love to hear an answer to this question!

I would pitch it in Logic pro. You can even set it to not pitch the tonal range, but just the speed, so it doesnt sound too silly.
Every pro application can do this, Im not sure if soundtrack pro or maybe garage band can, but could be.

If you are going to shoot @ 23.98 timebase (24fps) obviously your music would default 100%

By adding let's say 6 frames now (30fps) your speed has increased 25% and should read as 125%

Adding 24 frames (48fps total) your speed has doubled 200%

This clip has been shot entirely in 36fps 150%, unfortunately I didn't get to use the effect to it's full potential due to the ignorant artist :001_smile:

Use simple math to divide your recording rate by the intended playback frame rate, and then use ProTools to speed up the playback audio by that amount. As well as a full song, also break the song down into sections so you don't have to start takes from the beginning of the song each time, and make sure to include count-in sounders before each section of audio for playback. Give the band members each a copy on CD that they can practice with ahead of time to get used to playing/singing at the intended speed.

All the Best!

What can help to stay insynch is your eyes. I haven’t experience in shooting in 23.98, in PAL we work on 25, and I mean your problem is the error introduced by the difference 23,98 to 24 48 96 right? only in case you make long cut this maybe a problem... Your singer error in playback can be more than the difference 23.98-24fps, it can be more than 1fps, so I suggest don’t worry and use your eyes. In every case the best way maybe shoot everithing at 96fps, you have inside it 48 and 24 for some creative cut and changing speed. This in case you can speed up to 2x. In case you speed up 1.5x 72 or 108 maybe a good choice. Remember to use fantasy in edit, when he sing an “aaaa” or a “oooooo” you can use the slowest soluntion, a long “ooooo” is the same a 23,24 fps and at 108 fps ;) . Hope to be useful.

Ciao!!

So I'm preparing to do a metal-core music video. I took the song into protools, sped it up to 200% in the time compression plug in, thus being able to shoot 48 fps. actually, it asks for a ratio. I pluged in .50:1. This is entirely too fast for someone to try and sing and play along with. I can't even imagine what 72 or 96 fps would take. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Dave, no nothing wrong speed up more than 200% is impossible to sing. If you speed up 200% you shoot at 48fps then when play it at 24 fps you are in synch. But I suggest you to shoot at 96fps. you have a clip in synch when play it at double speed with your edit software (pay attention at frame blending issue in this case) and a great slow motion (but without sync) if you play at standard speed... to hard to explain than to do.
but in videoclip edit have some dirty slowmotion image (also without synch) is a resource.
