Hi guys... I shot and directed a Music video in South Africa for a local artist.

We shot on Scarlet Dragon at 5k.

I would love some critique from you guys. Seems there is some gamma shift from Vimeo. Not sure how to fix that. Original export doesn't shift the gamma.

Here is the link.

Love the tones.

The drummer is distracting.

I wouldn't be able to perform on stage with her behind a kit :P

Thanks Eric. She really is a stunning woman. Quite well known in South Africa as a drummer. She is also a presenter on a local car TV show. You should see her drift a car. wow.

Hi Martelli, would you believe it, we shot on Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for the drummer. We shot the singer exterior shots on EFS 18-135 IS lens, and his interior close up shots on Canon EF 50mm F1.4. Looking at the vimeo video, the original Prores is way sharper, obviously some loss in detail due to compression. I am actually very impressed with these lenses. I have access to a set of Zeiss CP2's but after seeing these lenses, I'm pretty confident I will only use the CP2's on videos with higher budgets.

I thought it looked really good, even with the gamma shift, which I think is a ProRes thing (seem to remember it being mentioned in the Workflow section of the forums here). Maybe try exporting the video using some other codec and see if it uploads alright?

I like the way you kept the video visually engaging while only using a couple of locations and a few cut-aways, could easily have ended up being too repetitive.

Love that other frame you posted the other day too btw, the retro looking one shot in the nicely lit bedroom, was actually hoping that would be in this video, to see how it looked in motion.

Hi Les,

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback.

I'll definitely try another codec and see if that fixes the gamma shift issue with Vimeo.

Regarding the still frame I uploaded of the retro looking bedroom, that is from another video I did with this same artist. We shot two videos back to back in the same week. I am going to upload it this week coming and put it here for all to see. That frame is 5k 60fps at redcode 16:1. It actually came out pretty well.

Thanks again Les.

Have you tried QT NONE then let Vimeo try and mess it up?

I would also suggest ProRes 444 but Id try NONE first.

I noticed that the color is inconsistent, yellow, green.
It seemed like the most neutral were the close-ups of his face.

Thanks Jake... The language is Afrikaans. The youngest language in the world and was derived from dutch, Finnish and German settlers that colonized South Africa back in 1652. The language is native only to South Africa and Namibia. Now that the history lesson is over. He is saying "cry for me". It's a breakup/Love song etc etc... very big Afrikaans community in South Africa and they love this kind of music.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Grade has been tweaked and it goes live on Local South African TV this coming week.

Oh.. and BTW Jake... your Scarlet name "Groot". It translates to "BIG" in Afrikaans and Dutch. =P

beautiful work. Yes - the drummer was quite distracting... but I'm not complaining :)
