"Mojo"

Directed by Scott Hansen
DP: CJ Davis
Editor: Kory Smith

I ended up directing all the green screen stuff (video with black background) and did all the post production. I definitely felt some things could have been better and a few rules of HIP HOP video 101 were broken but I think I put together something decent.

This was my first shooting experience and editing experience with RED so I hope for more to come. Let me know what you think.

not a rag on you at all, but man the NLE folks need to get with the program and put out some GOOD QUALITY color tools for good formats like red....I bet you used an NLE to color work your images correct?

After using a scratch NLE color times look so "low end" now on RED...:{

I mean, how hard can it be to make quality color tools ? I guess harder then you think or we would have better tools built in..

if "color" fits into that category then sure. In my defense I HATE the color that's on the first half of the video. I went with a more natural look but the director wanted it to look washed out. The second half in the club is where I actually did my own thing.

I appreciate the critique though.

It seemed that the lip synch was off to me. I also saw the sparkly skin flickers I was getting when I bring 4K down to 2K. I had to use a little diffusion to get rid of it on the music video I'm working on now. The grittiness of the video didn't bother me but with that background beat I was thinking it could be using bright colors. I think that's just a left over feeling from Austin Powers using that song though. I liked the contrast and the motion effects in it but the song bored me.

OMG! In this Vimeo version in first half is black crushed to hell. Toooo much. Hard to believe that somebody request this. If you need more dark areas why dont light it on set that way? Good color corectors are priceless. Also was there any makeup at all? Skin looks strange. i like song, but it need more producing. ... Just how I see it.

Yeah this was my first time shooting with RED. It wasn't my video and i just felt like the director did not quite understand that this was a whole new world he was venturing into not just a different camera. yeah their skin looks strange because he wanted the skin tones to look more even amongst each other. I was like "uhhh one guy is white the girl is spanish they are supposed to look different or you should have hired a white model"

tough shoot, critique is appreciated.
