Few grabs from a music video we shot yesterday - Epic plus Standard Speeds. We were going for a slightly more degraded image than usual hence the slightly softer, grainer look.

Incredible as always man. Just wanted to share this one as well, different project but just as striking.

Really beautiful stills! Can't wait to see it!

Is all that blooming and glow purely from the glass or did you use some BPM or soft filters and/or processing in post? The super speeds I often shoot with have a quality like that to them, and I love it! Reacts more like my old 35mm SLR with old Canon FD glass!

I'll let Piers answer, but I'm almost certain it's the older T* coating on the Standards (much like the Supers). My Contax and Hasselblads (made during the same era) bloom the same way. It's very pretty and organic.

Thanks guys!

Piers are you noticing any "port holing" with the Standards? I know it's supposed to be there, but from DP's that actually use them...most of them say they never notice it, and if they do it's subtle cuz its there faintly only wide open and at 2.8 (and even then it's so organic barely telegraphs to the viewer)

One of those theory vs practice situations. In theory people say "watch out!, and then in practice it's "never an issue".

Love your perspective though.

Video should be up in a few weeks. Will post it here when it's done.

That blooming is probably partially to do with the lenses, but mostly down to a 1/8 Black Promist which I often use with the Epic. I like how it blooms the highlights and in general it just seems to reduce the clarity a little which can be useful in some cases. But yeah, you will get that effect with some old lenses anyway. I suppose it's a bit like flaring, and really down to personal taste.

I have seen the Standards porthole - can't remember which ones offhand but I have certainly seen it. It wouldn't bother me too much - if it did creep into frame it could easily be scaled up slightly in post, plus in a lot of cases it's disguised by what's in frame. If you were shooting against a white background it would probably be more of an issue..
