Here's a super quick video I shot last night. The artist is local and I've talked to him online, although we'd never met. He told me he was in town so we decided to throw something together. I grabbed a non-film buddy of mine to come assist and we met at his house, scoped out this awesome spot and without any plan just shot for about 30 minutes. I actually tried to get some coverage and planned to edit it together, but when I synched up this take, I was surprised at how good it was and I thought it would be a shame to cut it up.

Considering the way it came to be, I'm really happy with it :) The Vimeo version looks ok, but you can download the better h.264 version if you care to. There seems to be a slight gamma difference between the two.

Enjoy :)

this is the video i always wanted to shoot, but no record label had that courage to show one take of the artist. no cuts, no effects, just artist and his music.

cool.

some post work for the purple dot, enjoy.

thanks, man :)

I have no idea what the hell to do with that big black dot :( I still don't understand why it can't be a white dot in camera, but i guess there must be a reason since people have been bitching about it since day 1 and it's still there. I figured out that if I boost the iso a little I can actually blow out the dot from RED ALERT, but I think I'm blowing out a little of the hair too. it's outputting right now, so if it isn't too rough, I'll have it on vimeo in a couple hours.

i think it´s worth to take a cool beer or two and take an evening to mask this dot or paint it off. not so many frames.

i am just painting some dust issues of 35mm footage here, that´s really hell, i will *** the camera assistent...

i had 4 beers right now:blink:

and night goes on here in germany...

I've never tried painting something out before, not even sure how. I don't have After Effects. Any advice?

when you are on mac Motion or Shake.

or as a tiff sequence-export of the "dot part" into photoshop and paint it off and go back and insert the painted part into the whole sequence.

i am learning too this stuff, i will never be a master of this postproduction software, sometimes i sit down and go on learning it ... and drink beer to stay happy ...

i admire those guys that create CGI stuff, i never will learn this really, but i try to understand some workflows since i have my own company.

otherwise, in your case, it doesn´t touch the concept of your video, so it is not a must to put it off in my opinion.

cheers

well, that doesn't sound too hard, although a little time intensive for my schedule at the moment. If this "blown out" version looks alright, I'll use that for the internet version, and then attempt to paint it out the proper way next week.

Thanks RSW

I uploaded the "blown out version" to vimeo. I think overall it actually looks better, and the sun is gone. However,it's obviously more blown out than the first one, and I like the texture better on his face in the first one, a little less contrast and a little less pink than the new one.

Anyway, you'd guys would be doing me a big favor if you could compare them and tell me which you like better. Later when I finalize the HD version I'll skew it one way or the other.

THANKS!

EDIT: nevermind, i decided to go with the original and took down the newer one
