hi there,

does anyone know the multiplier/factor shooting frame rates like 33F/s or 18F/s. we've to pitch the song to make it lipsync for other frame rates than 25F/s.

THANKS!!!

Hi Bernd,

The formula to find the speed you need a track to be to sync at 25fps when shooting off-speed is:

(Framerate/25)*100 %

So, for the two framerates you mentioned, the speeds would be:

33/25 * 100 = 132% speed.

18/25 * 100 = 72% speed.

Hope that helps mate,
Dom.

thanx dominic but meanwhile I was told that shooting 33F/s would never be sync shooting red one 33F/s. better said only 12 to 15 seconds sync. Have you ever shot 33F/s? with red one?

I have never shot 33fps, but I couldn't see a reason why it should get out of sync if your Playback is sped up in the right relation to your finishing frame rate (25fps). As dominic stated it's straight forward percentage calculation that gets you there.
One thing you'll have to be careful with when shooting a frame rate like 33 are housebulbs for example, wich would cause flicker, because the relative Shutter wouldn't fit it's frequence.

Hi again Bernd,

I haven't shot 33fps for 25fps sync, no - but as Kim says it shouldn't be an issue if the track plays back at the correct speed. Maybe the advice you got was about frame-rate converting the footage to play as if shot on-speed? That would certainly be tricky for 33 -> 25 fps.

I have just shot some footage @ 18fps for a promo, but have yet to see an edit or talk to post about it - I'll let you know if they have any issues.

As Kim says, be careful to watch for flicker and/or dial in safe shutter angles/speeds. Tungsten bulbs should be fine unless you skinny the shutter a lot but anything fluorescent (I'm assuming by household bulbs Kim is referring to CFL "energy saver" type fixtures) may well be problematic. Of course, you can always dial in a 1/50th shutter (237.6 degrees @ 33fps) and you'll be safe...

Cheers,
Dom.
