Greetings,

I'm Wrangling a 2 camera Red project for the first time (sorry, everybody's got to start somewhere...) and was wondering, maybe you've seen this too?.... Opening certain clip folders reveals the usual QT proxies, but also 2 or more R3D files.

When I open them in RedAlert, they are all the same clip. No discernable difference. (having made another quick look I see that one is REC709, but all the others are RedSpace - see attached pic).

So the questions; A: what could be causing this on camera? B: is it safe to delete the "extra" files in said folders so as to conserve space?

Thanks,

Chris

Do NOT delete the other files in the folder, the other R3d files that are in there are a continuation of the original clip. Since the CF cards and the Red Drive are formatted fat 32, the maximum a single file size can be is 2GB, I beleive, the other files are the rest of that same file. When working in your editor, you just need to import one file, and all the rest are automatically linked to that same file.

This is correct.

Delete one and you might as well delete them all, those are one clip spanned across "partitions."

Yes, if you have a long scene or interview the R3D's are split into multiple parts. Doesn't effect anything and REDAlert sees them as one file.

Right on! Thanks for the quick reply all. Obviously, good advice all around :)

I had a feeling there was something going on so I did, in fact, leave them alone. Makes perfect sense now.

Again, thanks for the knowledge, and tolerating the New Guy.
