  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Multicam, Fool Control and Tethered Recording

We've built a multicam rig that we are trying to simplify as much as possible. We've got anywhere from 5-7 cameras all triggered and controlled with fool control, and we would like to be able to setup some sort of tethered recording as well. All the cameras would have to be connected to a 10G switch and then written to a raid over fiber. As of right now, RED Cine only supports 1 camera through the tethered record function. Is there any third party multicam tethered record support or a reliable way to run multiple instances of Red Cine on a single machine? We would love to not have to swap out mags, or worry about adequate storage and instead just bring a large raid array with us and write all cameras to it at the same time.

Another option would be to possibly record the feed from the 4k output of a broadcast module, but we would like to be at 5k or 6k if possible.

Does anyone have any experience doing something like this?

Paging Jarred Land, do you guys have any support for multicam functions coming to the tethered recording function of RED Cine?

Hey Kurt,

You'll have bandwidth problems since the Ethernet port on REDs is NOT 10G (yet! hopefully...) so recording to the MiniMags will be higher quality.

I won't trust networked recording, never.

Use MiniMags, buy 1TBs and hover around 10:1 compression for longer takes.

Anyway...if you rename RedCineX to RCX1 RCX2 etc etc you should be able to run multiple instances but try to use sw renderer not OpenCL or Cuda to avoid conflicts.

My 2c. ;)
