Hey There,

I know a few of you have shot multicam concerts on the Red.

I would like to know if anyone has a clean workflow for FCP using multicam.

What I would like to do is transcode to ProRes (either HD or SD res) edit using multicam, and then relink to the original R3Ds for Color.

Any advice on a clean process would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

This is exactly what I'm working on the moment.

We have a 9 Cam set-up, using transcoded ProRes files at 1024x576. Once we've finished the plan was to use one of the Third Party workflows to re-render all the used clips to our finishing format.

Now that the R3D Plug-in for Color has been released I'm seriously re-considering. It will make life loads easier to just get it into Color, grade and render out from there. The one problem we've got is that our footage is a mix of 4K, 3K and 2K - and of course the 3K is the one resolution that we can't get full HD from with this workflow!

So many things to consider...

If doing multicam I can't imaging the pain of the proxies or the new RED QTs in the edit. Well actually I can as I've done many music videos which is like multicam with more cameras. Transcode to ProRes for any real workable timeline, especially when multiclipping for a multicam workflow. From there it's any number of ways to get back to the R3Ds.

Thanks guys.

Editblog, this is exactly what I'm asking. I intend to use ProRes for multicam as there is NO WAY native or proxys will do it.

Looking for the method to relink to R3D before going to Color.

Cheers,

Jim

Look at the RED white paper that they just put out. workflow 2 under the color workflows is this: Workflow 2: Work Offline Using ProRes; Finish Using RED QuickTime Media. I think that's what you want.

Yeah, saw that when I first downloaded.

I tried to keep up with it but got terribly confused! ;-)

Has anyone made sense of it and could maybe simplify?
