  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Multi-brand 50mm cine Lens comparison

E, like the nice flares and bokeh

do you have sigma in there?

Any chance you can re-run the tests with RWG/Log3G10? The DC2/RG4 is so distracting...

Blind test are great. For me the clothing on the girl is distracting, it's hard to get a sense of flesh tones without nudity.

So, which gamma/color space do you prefer?

I think they're referring to the way bright colours can clip unnaturally when using DragonColor2, and perhaps also to how much contrast there is with RedGamma4.

DragonColor(1) would be preferred, even with RedGamma4.

If you can use the new IPP2 settings, RWG/Log3G10 with 'Medium Contrast' and 'Medium Highlight Roll-Off' would probably look more neutral.

Interesting test by the way, some nice looking lenses in there. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Les, I will render the viedo with DragonColor(1)/RedGamma4 and update

Your update didn't adjust the obscuring layers properly. In the scene shot you need to obscure the lens data with the big rectangle, but don't obscure the model with the little square. In the chart shot you need to obscure the lens data with the little square and not obscure the fine center resolution with the big rectangle. You left the obscuring boxes on for both, which obscures valid image data, not only lens identification.

Celeres have also this star effect on bright reflections. Are the iris blades making this kind of Star effects?

The number of star points corresponds to the number of iris blades, but I don't know if it's the actual blades themselves causing the effect. Have seen the same thing on some Leica-M lenses as well.

Tom, couldn't really pick a favourite lens from that test, I thought they all looked good more or less.
