I was using Compressor on Snow Leopard and after converting some and wanted to play them like I used to, then QT Player tells me I don't have the plug-in, so I thought, well, maybe something to do with QTX, so I gave up and tried to use Mpeg Streamclip to playback like I used to then it tells me I need the plugin. So I checked with Apple download then it comes up as a download product costing $19. Really? Is this the only way? I guess Apple is rewriting the API for QTX, is that why they need to make money this way? $19 is small so I would pay but I would not want to pay if that is something I already paid.

If you already bought this from apple you do not have to buy it again. Just go to your purchased items and download the file again.

David,

I found that the Apple Store account holds all of the purchase information. But then we are using the pro function licensed from FCS2 which automatically turned Pro license on but does not provide any sole-licensing I think.

So, I thought well, contribute to Apple's effort and I don't wanna waste time, so ended up purchasing the license anyway.....but, don't do this people.

This is already discussed but Pro function of QT7 does not work on Leopard. So even you purchase the QT7 pro license, as of now, won't be able to install on Snow Leopard if I'm not mistaken.

I'll see the latest VLC (I found 64-bit version!) can play this.

Thanks Neil,

Now I have to look for that plugin manually.

As Neil pointed out, reading the solution for Snow Leopard in Mpeg Streamclip site, you can install the MPEG2 playback plug-in into QT7 on Snow Leopard. Thanks Neil.

I made a thread to discuss about these little hiccups here.

I had the same problem, this worked for me:

put in your FCS installer disk,

in the finder GO menu > Go to Folder, type /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/

this will show all the installers,

Double-click the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg

Thanks Jamon, I added your finding in the solutions thread.
