Hi guys I am wanting to build an edit system around the AMD firepro w8000 graphics card and need a component list reccomendation built around this graphics card. I need Thunderbolt as I have Thunderbolt drives already and I dont want to break the bank so I am looking specifically for a processor, motherboard, Ram combo. Please exclude HDDs, case, monitor and power supply. The imac has served its purpose but I need more power and do not want to spend the huge leap in cost for a macpro given that i just recently bought a red scarlet-x and trying to transcode, edit and grade bogs the imac down to the point that its is becoming unproductive.

Any clear advise is gratefully accepted, thank you very much.

I would not suggest that card with Adobe CC 2014 since Cuda still far outperforms Open CL there. Nvidia 900 series cards are releasing very soon which is going to increase this disparity. I suggest 5960X, X99 board, and atleast 32GB of DDR4 though 64GB is really what you want with that CPU and R3D files. That is the place to start.

Check tonymacx86.com for a list of pc/mac compatible component lists.

It will be at least a few weeks before the X99 chipsets and Asus / Gigabyte motherboards are fully Mac OS X compatible, but if you only need Windows then its a good option now, and the Nvidia GTX 970/980 series will be out in a few weeks as well.

So the GTX cards are cheaper and better for adobe CC than the quadro cards? as well as much cheaper than the AMD card as well!
