Agreed. This was a big one. Flawless, and visually so stunning. Saw this at a young age and also the art director came and spoke to my freshman college class.

Star Wars / Garden State and many amateur movies (french ones).

Star Wars 1977 - I was 8 - Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara opening night.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977

The Black Stallion 1979 - I was 10...about the same age as Kelly Reno

Apocalypse Now 1979 - Snuck in to my first R rated movie.

The 80's was a steady stream

Raging Bull, The Wall, After Hours, Angel Heart, The Duellists, Alien, Blade Runner, Amadeus, Cinema Paradiso, Brazil, Raising Arizona, A Passage to India, Blue Velvet, Last Temptation of Christ, Powaqqatsi, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Plus devouring everything I could from the Video rental shop. Everything Kurosawa ever directed. Dr. Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia,

By the time I graduated High School in 1987 I was convinced.

Hands down, "Jurassic Park."

When I was a kid...I saw Jurassic Park...and it blew my mind...I just KNEW that thats what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So I went to school for 3D animation and film making :) But honestly there are far to many movies to list that really keep me enthralled at the idea of film making.

"Ran"& "Dersu Uzala" from Kurosawa.
"Apocalypse Now"
Hitchcock & Truffaut& Fellini,
and for sure all the camera work from Nestor Almendros.

No one mentioned Dune (from 1982, I think)...
That's an EPIC movie.

There are many movies out there, and all of them mentioned previously are really good examples, but for me it was not a movie that switched me from photography to videography (movie making). It was 9 years ago whem my son was born. Before it was all about making photos. But then I made the switch. I still take photos (many photos), but also small movies. Not only movies for and from my family, but also some other things.
I started with a Canon XL1 and still waiting for RED Scarlet Fixed...

Black Narcissus - the magic of the studio.
The Duellists - the magic of naturalistic location shooting.
