  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MoVI on inline skates. Single user mode.

The Movi is a really cool piece of gear. I have not had the privilege of using one yet myself. There is one factor that has my hesitating from moving down that path. Left, right, up down movement seems great (though still not totally smooth in some examples on RU). Often times a dutch roll is required for the types of shoots I am hired for. Is there any remedy for the dutch roll with the Movi? Is it possible to tilt the camera at a certain degree and lock it at that angle? For compositional purposes, not sure if I could spend the coin for the two movements. Still, a great piece of gear, I just need dutch roll capability.

You can trim the roll axis (and other axes) and this can be controlled via the remote operator. At the moment it's just 10 degrees but I forsee more in firmware updates.

How is the weight for extended shots? Does there look light an adapter could be made to use with a steadicam rig?

Well, it can get heavy yes, with Epic. But as I get more experience my body is able to operate longer and longer without issues. I've done a 5 minute take repeatedly and that was 3 days after it arrived. Kind of torturous. Two months later I have the new muscles required to operate it for extended period of time.

A bit of behind the scenes

Great stuff Brett! Thank you sharing! We have already oredered a 3 axel gimbal for early next year!! ;)

Cheers mate!

Any easyrig would be essential for longer takes.

How long are we talking Matt? It depends on the strength of the operator, camera position, camera weight (the MoVI itself only weighs 2.2 kg) I've done 5 minute takes moving through an environment. A more trained individual doing the correct reps in the gym on a regular basis wouldn't even notice 5 minutes.

Also with the new attachment above, a Steadicam arm becomes an option also.

Anything over 10min. imo

Easyrig?? Why??? Here's a solution for under $300 that does the same thing. I'm picking another one up next week for my gstabi. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...94632137234485&type=1&relevant_count=1&ref=nf

Same problem though: you can't use it like a MōVI, you have to behave more like a steadcam in terms of range of movement.

Also, having a connection like that shows up when you walk due to the fact that gimbals only take care of rotation, not translation. You get a bobbing movement. Our arms are surprisingly good at dampening out most of human movement. You can't run with an Easyrig or Atlas like you can without https://vimeo.com/m/72371793

What I would like to see is a clip that you can detach from the Atlas or Easyrig mid-shot.

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it. Especially when the monted the "mövi" on the pipes to do a sweep over the crowd, and the rope rig plus the lights on the bouncers.

I repost your link here without being the mobile version. http://vimeo.com/72371793

Strenghtening the muscles does not remove strong axial forces affecting body joints and back.
I don't suggest using this particular solution with cameras like these for prolonged periods of time.
