  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Up until this point, I've only used very simple cameras with a single hole in the bottom for the tripod.

I just looked at a thread for a quick release for the Scarlet/Epic, and it seemed to have two screws that would go up into the camera - so ... I need to get down the learning curve on this.

At the moment, I can see needing to mount the Scarlet onto a tripod head, a Kessler CineSlider, my teleprompter and the Kessler Turntable.

The teleprompter sled riser is shown here: http://q-gear.com/b15.htm

The Cineslider: http://www.kesslercrane.com/product-p/100154.htm

I may go with the Kessler Hercules head initially: http://www.kesslercrane.com/product-p/100075.htm

The turntable is here: http://www.kesslercrane.com/product-p/k-turntable.htm

Am I going to need to buy something else to be able to mount the Scarlet onto these? Will a single quick release work with all of the above?

I only have the Scarlet-X Canon mount package ordered, no other accessories.

Thanks!

You can also mount this camera directly to your tripod plates, etc. that you already have, just like any other camera.

What Tripod do you have?

The only tripod I have is a Manfrotto 728B combined head & tripod with a load capacity of 7.7 lbs, so I'm starting from scratch.

I plan on using the CineSlider so stability is important. The teleprompter alone weighs about 16 pounds (I had the teleprompter mounted on it's own stand, but will be using that sled teleprompter riser so that I can move it with the camera)

I've asked a few times, but have never figured out the weight of the Scarlet with the side handle?

You can use a flat base to 100mm ball adaptor on a Cineslider, Kesser make one and so do Manfrotto. We use a 100mm Manfrotto 510 head or Ronford 2003 head but you need to change the bolt on the Ronford to a pin.

If you can just bolt the Plate to the Cineslider which will be a little more stable.

We use 2 x 100mm tripods to mount the Cineslider or bolt it to another solid base. We have run about 35Kgs on the slider with a mirror rig and it works without any problems.

I was going to mount the Hercules directly onto the K-Pod tripod, and mount the CineSlider on the Hercules.

The Turntable will be mounted on the CineSlider, and the teleprompter (when I use one) mounted onto the Turntable - or the Scarlet itself will be mounted on the turntable.

At some later point, I'd probably get a good fluid head, and mount that in between the CineSlider and the Camera (for shots that aren't motion controlled).

When motion controlled, I have some concerns about vibration, but both the CineSlier and the Turntable will be moving very slowly. That's a bit hard to judge, especially if I've got that teleprompter connected also with its extra weight.
