Hello,

I recently saw a Decimator mounted on a RED with only velcro straps and well...it was less than ideal. I'd like to buy one and on their site it says it comes with a mounting bracket. Could you guys tell me how you do it ? I'd like to be able to mount it directly to the bars with the help of an accesory.

And what is the best position on the camera so you can also power it from the battery. Can you power it directly through a D-tap cable ? Are there any other solutions for giving it a separate power source without being to bulky. Is it better to put it near the monitor and not on the camera at all ?

How did these guys here manage to do it ? http://www.shoothd.co.uk/Red Digital HD camera Hire - red one.html

I also saw one of these units giving of signal to a PSU video assist and the image looked very dark. They didn't know how to sort it out.

And looking at the same webstie could you tell me what accesorry I would need to mount the RED Drive on top of the camera like that ?

thanks,
Mihai

I mounted my own Decimator right on camera, with wireless sender.
Both of them mounted on Side Handle. Powered from D-tap.
Works fine.
Take a look at photos.

Hey there, who made your antlers Yevgeny?

The decimator powers off the d-tap just fine. I power mine either straight off the camera or I tape it just under the J-box and power it from the sled.

It is fine velcro ing your decimator; certainly if you use the 3M velcro which is super strong. Half my steadicam rig is held together with 3M velcro.

The image is not beautiful from the decimator but I use it as my only clients monitor out. We've been shooting off bad video taps for years. Its fine on low budget jobs.

Thoman you mean there are other downconverters you give off a better quality image ? I'm a beginner when it comes to these that's why I ask.

thanks

bad habit to split the video out from decimator with "T". Thats why the image is so dark. you are loading the output with 2x75 ohm which is 32.5 ohm.. makes it darker. use some sort of DA. here is one

Lentequip also makes one.
PS we have a new German digital Tx with composite in and out that is faultless up to 1 mile. call wolf 310 822-4973

They didn't use a T splitter. The video assist unit was a PSU.

Hey Thomas and Yevgeny,

Can you point me to where I can get a power cable for the decimator for DTAP? Who made your cable or where did you buy it?

Anyone know where I can get some other (maybe lemo) power cable to the decimator?

Cheers.

Steffen,

I get all my Steadicam and various other cables from Terry West in Ca.

Here's his contact info,

does the aja md3 provide a better image than the decimator?

i used to work with the aja, but saw the decimator @ ibc this year and would love to hear your opinions.

best wishes,
martin

My decimator has velcro on the bottom, which sticks it to the velcro on the side of my R1. Its rock solid and its a great system for adding and removing a decimator quickly. Whats your problem with velcro?
