Mount strength - Do I need lens support?

I was searching around trying to find out what the specs are for the AL Canon mount and what kind of weight it can take and I can't seem to find anything. Sorry if this is somewhere else, but I did look - swear. I'm actually just interested in my 70-200 f 2.8 and whether or not I have to mess with a lens support or not. I think the lens comes in just short of 3 pounds. Thanks for any help.

You'll be fine without lens support when using that lens.

That's what I figured but wanted to make sure. I'm coming from the world of AF-100s where if you sneeze on the mount you might break it.
