I'm currently shooting with a Panasonic HMC150.

The Scarlet Fixed has some appeal to me, but I have two main concerns. One is that the 8x zoom will not be enough, and secondly I like the idea of being able to swap on different types of lenses to achieve different looks.

I'd like to have some type of autofocus functionality for steadicam work, but I'm willing to consider options without that as well. It depends on cost and compatibility ultimately.

I like the wide angle of the HMC150 lens, so I'd want something similar for the Scarlet Interchangeable.

Lastly, I need a servo zoom i can control from the camera or a remote. Preferably in the range of the HMC150's 13x capability. 8x seems like too little for my work.

What lens could I get for this application? I imagine this is going to get pretty expensive, so I'll probably be looking for something whereby the entire cost ($2500 brain plus lens and basics) is $10,000 or less.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you have everything you need on the Fixed Scarlet:

- Servo zoom that you can control on the grip or via REDMote.
- Auto focus
- Wide angle

The only thing holding you back is the zoom range...
Do you need all of the zoom range or could you live with a tele adapter in these occasions?

i'm gonna have to do some tests, but for shooting fast moving cars on a track i'm not sure 8x is going to cut it.

Excuse my ignorance, but I've never used a telephoto adapter. Can you still operate the zoom of the main lens with the adapter in place; or do you end up with a fixed focal length?

In that case, 8x might provide enough range even for the race track stuff. I will have to experiment with this.
