Hello there everyone.

I hope you're all lining up a great Holiday Season.

Since the RedMote allows remote operation of the Scarlet-X Camera from a distance, does anyone know of a devise, or does anyone have the capabilities for making a devise, that will trigger the RedMote via a "motion detector" ?

In other words, we have a special project coming up, where we need to lock the camera down in a location, and have it shoot only when a motion detector triggers it.

I don't know if something like this already exists or will have to be built, but we need it nevertheless.

Any help or advise is appreciated.

Thanks.

Simple enough to build something like this. Engineering a GPIO trigger that's switched by a PIR sensor or similar won't break the bank either. I'm not local to you, so may not be the quickest option, but PM me if you like :)

You could also use the actual HDMI output on Scarlet if a separate motion detection device is impractical.

1. Scarlet HDMI out
2. HDMI to S-video scaler (Gefen)
3. S-video to DV converter (Canopus advc-55)
4. A Mac with Securityspy software by Bensoftware

Set up the camera source as a standard dv camera input via Firewire.

On motion set a custom applescript to send a record start request either via

a) the GIG-E port on Scarlet using RED Camera to RJ45 cable. You would have to ask RED for the details of the ethernet command protocol.

or with a lot less effort:

b) a USB controllable black box that sends the trigger signal via the camera sync port.. perhaps a modified Madlyfins EPIC Chocolate Bar

You could use a Labotronik USB controlled relay as a bridge between the Chocolate Bar and the host Mac.

The entire set-up costs probably less than $1000.

Why not request a feature to allow an active area of the image to be windowed and act as a capture trigger for the camera just like a security camera. It can track focus so why not capture functions. This would be really good for remote camera work for Wildlife. Perhaps Graeme or a RED rep could comment if its possible.

Hey John,

I tried PMing you and your inbox is full. Please empty some of it so I can communicate. ;)
