  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Motion-Controlled RED With Used Car-Assembly Robot

I dare you to try to perform like this robot. Unless you really understand motion control, you would not understand how really fantastic this device is and that it will allow you to do something a human could never do.

It has it's advantages for sure.

I thought this was very, very cool.

Hi,

With accuracy of +/- 0.3mm I would not get too excited as far as real motion control is concerned, fine on a wide shot and as a crane.

Its really no different than a shorter version than the Technocrane (Mastercrane) I have seen Richard Moriarty , Noah, and Craig Keif handle technocranes with precise control. Its just how you retool these industrial auto painters and welders to fit the needs of the type of filmmaking you should use.

I'm not quite sure these are needed though. A technocrane with a 3-axis head and a seasoned operator/1st AC can do the same job, but with a bit more flexibility.

Another issue is how long it would take to program one of those. It seems really cost-ineffective compared to the above solution. If it only takes seconds to repgrogram than fine, but it looks fairly complex.

What it would be good for is in filming action sequences where you need the cameras to move very fast and precise on a single take.

These are very very noisy, I can not see uses beyond commercial work or miniatures. Anything where you need to record sound will be a problem.

Still pretty cool. I love how everyone pooh-poohs something like this.

The concept piece they did was awesome, and funny but I think the poetic reading wasn't too hot. Needs better voice-over work.
