Hi, I am looking for a LED that could replace a ARRI M18. I haven't been able to find anything that is very powerful, with only 250-300 watts being the Max.

Maybe theres a limitation? But I would like to have a strong main light that is under 10amps 240v that I can still plug into a standard powerpoint. I cant see why someone hasn't built a LED that draws under 1800w that is as powerful, or more powerful than the M18. I would like the kind of power you can light a room in daylight from outside a window (assuming its not too bright outside!) .

Is there any lights that are this powerful?

Cheers Paul

You can't compare a single point metal halide HMI to any LED source because there's no single point LED source that can strike that much power out of a single element.

See this post from 2016: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...t-again-WTH!!-10K-equivalent-Led-light!/page2

To get an equivalent amount of light power means you're not actually getting a single point light but a multi-point light that you attempt to focus via the fresnel lens but honestly it's a poor replica of a true metal halide HMI fresnel.

The brightest single point LED is is around 2500 lumens -- but it isn't anywhere close to what the Arri HMI puts out. It's truly in a different league.

For what it's worth, this year many professional sports stadiums are starting to switch over to LED lighting -- Musco Sports Lighting makes powerful LED sources but the problem is they're meant to throw lights hundreds of feet, so you don't need them to be true single point sources.

Hollywood is starting to use these, they say: http://www.musco.com/me/temporary/muscolight.html

I have no experience with Aputure's Light Storm (LS) series, but there's this monster: https://www.aputure.com/products/ls1-1 30,000 lux and 95+ CRI.

The leds close to that bright are all open face lights, the ability to shape them is pretty weak and the CRI is also pretty lacking.

The 3 options that are in that relative ballpark are the Mole Senor LED, aadyntech punch plus (new version only), and the DS6.

Went thru this same search myself late last year, id take a look at the Hive wasp 1000. Lot of the beneefits of LED without most of the trade offs.

Yeah that Mole SeniorLED 900 is supposed to exceed a 1200W HMI but doesn't come close to the 1800W one. I've never seen it in person but I assume it's a light pump for short distance fill versus something sharp and crisp like the M18 (if desired).

That Hive Wasp 1000 looks cool, never heard of it. Nice price on it -- 70% of the cost of the M18 outfit. CRI is 98? Sounds like a winner, wonder who rents it out in my neighborhood. Plasma not LED though but still a competitive product I'm sure. Curious what kind of heat waste is involved with plasma at that power level -- those plasmas at low power can be super efficient compared to metal halide.

Thanks for the quick replies! The mole senor is more in my price range, the hive is stretching it too much...

A 1200 HMI is pushing it for a light source from outside windows most of the time , the m18 is the minimum I have hired, and I sometimes need two set on different lighting circuits. I think the M18 is closer to a 2.5k HMI, with an efficient reflector.

Theres is a 1600w mole senor, but its 12kusd, thats a bit too much for me.

Yeah the tener is the one i meant. I picked up my Wasp for around $7k used (with shipping and spare bulb)

Probably the best light you can plug into the wall. Id definitely save and stretch for it.

Heat is about the same as a 200w tungsten. Bulb itself is hot, housing stays cool enough to touch.
Very close to an m18, and the CRI is no joke.
