  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Most Badass Game Trailer...ever?

lol! But it sure would look cool! Hey, at least it's not the Wachowski bros. right?

Yeah but Blur already is producing better work. I see nothing of value in Advent Children. The story was terrible. The writing was worse. The animation was awkward and the rendering was on average with any other quality animation studio.

I really want to see Blur get a feature. Those guys have worked their asses off 24/7 for the last 10 years at the very cutting edge producing incredible art. They deserve it.

Someone needs to give them a briefcase full of money and a great screenplay.

Its not Vader. The story takes place a thousand years before the others happen.

Why can't they make a full length movie like this. I would be first in line to see two hours of bad-assery like this on screen. The problem with Lucas is that he's not a director, he's not even a writer. The guy should just be a producer and be happy with that because he sucks ass at the other two. Just look at "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". Way better movies than any of the other ones that came out, which he didn't write or direct. I also blame Lucas for the last "Indiana Jones" film. Frank Darabont wrote a script for it that I know for a fact would have blown Lucas's toilet paper he turned in out of the water.

Lucas came up with a great idea but that's about it and he should just accept that.

Amazing game trailer BTW.

Indeed, he singlehandedly drove two of my favorite childhood franchises in to the ground.

Incredible trailer. I'm not really a gamer, but this makes me want to play whatever the heck is being advertised!

And, yes, these people should have been the ones making the recent trilogy. Would have made much better films than the ones featuring Jar-Jar blundering about and Qui-Gon trapped behind an endless series of pointless laser doors...

I don't see how making the prequels animated would have made them any different.

I agree with the notion that Lucas has taken things way too far in regards to the constant changes to the Original Trilogy, and the use of CGI in the recent films. I would have much preferred balance of locations, sets, AND CGI like what we saw in the LOTR films. And yeah there's Jar Jar...and cringe worthy acting moments to be sure.

And where did those franchises come from originally? Drove to the ground??

:head_explode:; Lucas receives quite a lot of unnecessary flak these days. Let's not forget that it was him alone who envisioned and created the Star Wars universe and all the characters we've grown to love over 30 years. That was George, not the guys he hired to write the screenplays,. To say he "sucks" as a writer is pretty low, and totally uncalled for. :nono: George is an exceptional storyteller, one of the best I think. No matter how much he may change the original films (For better or for worse), it should take a lot more than that to discredit him for all he's done.

Lucas is a bad writer but he's a worse director. He has some great ideas that I have come to love over the years. But the guy is surrounded by yes men and must be drinking his own kool aid. For me I didn't like "New Hope" because it just seemed not as polished as the other two. I understand that it was basically an independent scifi, which was no easy task back in those days. But lets see the movies that he's wrote and directed and the ones he was a producer/story guy on. The last three Star Wars forget about it.

The guy just thinks he is god, which he's isn't. The blame is all on him for "Indiana Jones 4". Frank Darabont can write circles around Lucas any day of the week.

I'm just saying that any future Star Wars films should at the very least be directed by someone else and he shouldn't be writing. Look at the last Star Wars: Episode 3, which I liked the best out of the new ones. But still that one just had some lazy writing in it. When Padme dies he can't even write a reason why. "She's lost the will to live" is the most piss poor way to kill someone off especially when they have no other wounds. All of the films he has done are full of just retarded lines that make me cringe when I hear them.

My pipe dream is that 20-30 years from now I'm an established director and I talk Lucas's heirs (if they are anything like him, 'keep the checks coming' would be reason enough) into letting me do a new trilogy, and Lucas' only role in it would be to turn over in his grave

I think George Lucas would have made equally poor films without a computer at ILM.

Let's not forget all the films which have employed CGI without somehow self destructing. I get really tired of CGI being blamed for retarded dialog and terrible direction. It's like supposedly putting a green screen behind a window suddenly makes an actor ham up.

Meanwhile films such as LOTR are made packed to the gills with CGI and deliver a great movie.

Was Letters from Iwo Jima ruined by the frame being practically 90% CGI? It's as ridiculous as saying Kinoflos just ruined The Island.

Personally I think George Lucas is a legend when it comes to concepts and big picture stuff. He just is too impatient for details. If you listen to *him* describe the prequels and what he was trying to tell you hear this incredible story which I would LOVE to see. It just never showed up on screen.

He needs to write the framework and then hand it off to someone who can fill it out with great characters and performances.

Take Indiana Jones. The concept is brilliant. The idea is brilliant. When left to his own devices we get a mediocre Indiana Jones 4.

To me he is the Anti-Joss-Whedon. And I mean that as much as a criticism of Joss Whedon as I do of George Lucas. Joss Whedon creates great characters and witty dialog. George Lucas creates great story frameworks. Their powers combined they could create an incredible film. Apart and you get Serenity and the Star Wars Prequels.

Just saw this one the other day... that is an amazing Star Wars trailer. Lucas Arts got my attention.
Just as this trailer keeps me waiting for this sequel [link]

The CGI is first class.
For those interested, the first game in this franchise, was one of the best i ever played.

Lucas himself has his shortcomings, yet he managed to enrich our lives with stories from far away galaxies... and while doing so, changed the face of cinema in quite a few ways...

I pretty much agree 100%. Mr. Lucas seems to be great at big picture concepts but not so great when he wants to 'get his hands dirty.' For a bit of a parallel example take Steve Jobs. Another great, big picture guy but Jobs doesn't sit down and try to personally design hardware or code software. He gets the final say of course, but he hires guys like Jonathan Ive to make the concepts a reality.

Fantastic trailer, but let's remember: this is Bioware. Saying their new product looks great is like saying Pixar's new film is getting good reviews. Bioware's two main locations (Edmonton and Austin), from what I have read, both seem to have very effective collaboration between all the creative departments. The team of writers are present at idea creation and are listened to heavily as the development proceeds.

Should be interesting to see what they do with their second adventure into the Star Wars universe.

Holy crap that was good! I skipped this thread for a while because I'm not a big gamer. I only play sports games and Star Wars games (even then only when I have time, which is rarely)...and this looks damn amazing!

By the way I know most of you have hit on this point already but I can't help but chime in. As much as I love it, it kills me to see characterizations of the Star Wars universe look so cool, knowing how bad that prequels sucked (except for epdisode 3) IMHO of course.

It also kills me when I see certain writers and directors doing excellent work within similar genres today and only guessing at what they could have done with the Stars Wars prequels if they were given the basic story arcs and then were left to create.

Could you imagine the prequels done by the Christopher and Jonathan Nolan, or JJ Abrahms, or even Zack Snyder, just to name a few. I know, none of these filmmakers really even had careers in Hollywood when episode 1 went into pre-production...but as a Star Wars nut I just can't help but think what the prequel trilogy could have been with that type of creativity and talent behind the wheel.

Alright, back to the real world....

One can always hope man.

Movies and gaming might cross paths very soon...
