  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More Stolen Gear!

It's cool, Finner. Didn't take it harsh at all.
The cops, Les at ZGC, and Marc Patuet at Hand Held Films have all indicated that the guys who are doing this (in NYC) are Brazilian. I have no idea where they came up with this, but I assume the cops must have at least some info. I do know that one set of S4s ended up for sale in San Paulo.
ZGC has a page on their website:

The MO has been the same each time. The guys follow a cube truck around until both PAs leave it unattended and then slip in and steal (almost always) just lenses. Indeed on our truck, all the cases were unlatched but only the lenses, Pro-35, camera, and O'Connor head were missing. So I'm guessing that everyone assumes it's the same creeps, and that because one set ended up in Brazil, that they are Brazilian. Maybe the cops have more than this.
But either way I think you're right. The gear is gone, never to be seen again.
Cheers,
Harry

Speaking of stolen...I have a strong feeling this RED ONE BODY is stolen that is on eBay right now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Red-One-4k-Ultr...=72:552|39:1|65:12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1308

It is a lot more difficult to get away with selling an actual stolen RED ONE camera body. I don't know if it is a scam or not, but the lack of information about the camera is definitely sketchy. Why doesn't the seller include pictures of the serial number?

The RED 18-50mm zoom lenses don't have any serial numbers on them. Maybe it would be a good idea?

I know it's been suggested before, but since the camera's serial number is part of the meta data, couldn't it be relatively easy to have RedAlert or one of the other programmes automatically check if the footage comes from a "legit" camera?

Now that camera on Ebay, what is also dodgy is that it is only a 3-day auction. But on the other hand, the reserve price is very very high...

Obin, glad you're OK.
That's more scary than my story. For sure.
Where are you located? Do you have serial numbers? There is a task force in NYC to deal with this I just spoke with Detective Anthony Diaz about my case. If anyone has any info or would like to speak with him, PM me.
Do we now need armed f'king guards???
Harry

cop chopper had them as they ran on foot
after wrecking my perfect audi s4

I bet all of these recent thefts by these morons are beu=ing done after these jokers scout web sites just like this to see who has received their RED. They're not TOTAL idiots.

Actually, most of the thefts are happening by guys hanging out outside camera rental houses. They see cases getting loaded into trucks and then they follow the trucks. As soon as they have an opportunity they strike.

Where forums like this come into play is when they try to sell the stuff. I've personally witnessed this and informed Jarred, but the seller (located in Brazil) deleted his own posts and dropped his account. The authorities have been notified.

Be very careful with your equipment. And be very careful when buying equipment.

I don't know for sure but it just seems fishy. Why is it the body only and again, no serial #'s mentioned or shown. Just looks fishy but could be totally legit...I wouldn't risk it though.

Wow! Terrible stories indeed... i really feel terrible that these things happened to Obin and Harry. I will sure learn a lesson from these tales and take all the necessary steps to protect our equipment.

Woooowww
