You can't make omelettes...

You can't make omelettes...

On "Full Metal Jacket", Kubrick made the little chinese hooker (Papillon, she's a friend of mine) come up to him everyday all geared up, costume and make up, claiming he was gonna shoot her scene. And everyday, he would stare at her and say, after a long silence, "we're not gonna shoot your scene today"... She would go nut! This lasted for weeks, months! She would not understand why, and wouldn't say. And then one day, when she expexted to be told "we're not gonna shoot your scene today", he said, "we're gonna shoot your scene today"! She was so startled that it was like she...

I forgot why I was telling this story... There was a point...

Anyway, Jim, it's allright (for me anyway)... I won't have that stress and excitement this summer anymore and just spend the holidays with the family (with a smaller camera)...

Oh yes, I remember now! My point was that someday we'll look back at this and laugh because this is just going to be one more great anecdote that will make the whole thing seems even more unbelievable!

You're doing an amazing job. Keep it up. I'm with you! You have no idea how you are changing my life!

For excuse of the delay, Red should unveil the "image enhancing" secret of Build 16. M. Jannard told us at the end of febuary that he's having difficulty to sleep with all the "image enhancing" features of build 16... still waiting here. I know they re-write the whole thing... i'm fine with it, if its not ready, its not thats all ! so am i ok to wait for my camera as long as it take...

But i dont undertand ALL the secret behind build 16... dont want to use it right now... i just want to know if it will bring at least 2 more stops of dynamic range in a near futur...

just andswer YES OR NO ! :-)

that will be very kind...

Not to add insult to injury, what's the status of the EVF delivery for those of us who have our Red's?

Thanks.

This is the longest wait for a consumer item I've ever endured... when it arrives I've decided to worship it as a deity instead of using it for filmmaking.

i am sure i will be in for a long wait. i ordered red one on monday #4087 it is worth what ever wait i have to endure.

Go out and enjoy the wonderful weather or something, Its spring for Gods sake. Unfortunately they can`t do that because they are busy slaving away...perspective.

DogDay

DogDay,

Thanks for the perspective man. It's so hard for all of us, customers and manufacturer alike, to reflect on the notion that there is a life outside of this phenomenon known as RED. Every complication, every setback seems monumental in the moment. Experiencing development in real time is painful. We could have taken the standard route, behind closed doors, and introduced the camera in a normal 5 year gestation time frame. You could have all lined up at the announcement of availability at NAB 2011, but what fun would that have been? :-)

We're not sleeping much and we will never let down. Our leader is our inspiration.

So, is the last posted schedule still valid ?
Or will it get worse with the current sensor glass issues ?

The new posted schedule reflects the issue of the cover glass. This was the "vendor issue", "parts supply", "component gremlin" that I referred to in yesterday's announcement. While rejects of this glass have always been a factor in cameras passing QA, it is only recently that we have seen an unusual increase in the problem. And, as Jim has said, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Had we not had the enormous increase in demand, it could have been manageable. The combination of many things conspired to reduce the daily yield at a time when we could least afford it.

We sat in conference yesterday and I have based the current schedule on what we think is a worst case scenario. Let's pray to the technology Gods for that, eh fellas?

Ditto . please share what you know about EVF schedule. Big Jon?

This would be a great time to have good news on another front. Yeah, we're having to set back camera delivery but we're catching up on EVFs. Well, guys, not so much.

I'm beginning to think that there is a Japanese executive somewhere sticking pins in a RED doll.

Issues are not going away entirely on our EVF and passed units are still just trickling in. There's light at the end of the tunnel and the consensus is that the finders will eventually catch up to camera orders. The next week is key in terms of what I can post on the schedule. When I know more, it will be posted. Promise.

So our batch 1751-2000 that were contacted prematurely will receive another contact email saying almost ready to ship... and then another email after that one week later for payment? I want to pay as early as possible to get our camera shipped. What if someone pays before being notified for payment... will they get ahead in the line when others are still waiting for the email for final payment?

I think this group of #1750-#2000 will just get one email saying "Your camera is ready to ship - we are ready when you are". And by "ready to ship", we mean "in a box and in the shipping area...we promise".

You can make a payment to your account at RED at anytime. We always deliver a delivery batch in order of payment received. We begin shipping a batch once that batch has been notified "Your camera is ready to ship" (ie, the second email you get from RED).

Thanks, BC

Thanks Brent... that cleared everything up. We will be wiring off our remaining balance ASAP.

I too have a problem... While I am waiting for my camera, I'm trying to develop accessories and Mods for the Red One and our latest creation is also enduring a setback... The new Heineken cans are fattier and wider than used to be and don't fit in the Pro Production Pack... We will have to delay delivery until we can modify the holder to fit all sizes of cans...

Maybe you can modify it so it can hold 2 cans - don't want to disrupt the supply.:turned:

Jon, I don't see at all why my name is in top of the quotation you are refering to...
Quite insulting actually!

My sincerest apologies Jonas. My mistake was in quoting the whole post as opposed to the message DogDay was sending, that there was life outside of RED. My post was in no way meant to bring attention to you. I have edited it and hope you understand my honest intentions.

OK - apology taken AND must say I was overreacting - Sorry!

The speed is sometimes to fast on the internet, I'm all OK.
