  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More HDRx...

HDRx means you got to do some flavor in REDcine X when you posted it, or is it pretty much as it came out of the camera. Any chance to see the just raw out of the camera pix so we can see what it looked like to start with or what you had on your monitors on the camera?
Man Jim, all my friends are already sick of hearing me talk about the new Redcine x this and the upgrade that and Epic will do this. I think they will soon ban me from talking REDick around them, I have been so vocal the last couple of months. I love to see their other camera loving faces when I tell them I just loaded the latest new upgrade and Epic is doing HDR in camera and then ask them what the other guys have done for them lately.
Go Red Team Go!!!!!!

HMI rental rates are gonna drop faster than god knows what, that I can tell you.

Yes clearly you would be nuts to not put this technology front and centre as the "red look".

It is not a matter of price either -in my experience people will pay for (and demand that they use) the device or gear that can get the shot they want.

Also one can be certain others would follow - so if not for release 1.0 - then right after all non- HDRx camera users would demand the feature I am sure.

The cost of a camera is one thing - but producing amazing shots - that simultaneously amaze AND dont draw attention to themselves - is a one in a generation feat. The lack of feathering around the door, the lack of even gradation towards the door frame is really hard to believe.

I just dont think we have had time yet to think about how we'd use this camera - or rather how we would now light a scene knowing we have this camera.

The workflow and craft aspects will be really great to watch over the coming months and years

Mike

I'm personally having a hard time imagining as to how dark or how bright it really was in person just because I'm not used to seeing such a clean image come out of a camera.

For the next HDRx™ preview, can we get a snap shot from another camera to get an idea of how a typical camera would react or a non HDRx™ version shot with the same RED? just a thought.

Great job. Though I'm not a pro (still a student), I wish such a feature would come to ALL cameras. It definitely is setting a new standard in the industry.

Imagine everything out the door as blown out... that's why Pete and Mick were so blown away. They have shot a lifetime and never seen anything like this. Google Peter Lik.

Now you can see why we want to put this in ALL our cameras!

Jim

jim i originally voted no to the 1000$ price increase. Im so glad u guys at red are smarter than me. haha This is guna be so unfrickinbelievable to work with in a $6000 camera. I fully and completely retract my vote of no from the poll. Now all you need to do is show me a shot from a scarlet.... would you please??? it would make me so so happy.

Once Scarlets are out, would anybody want to have a one without HDRx? Goodbye clipped highlights! :-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I started out doing photojournalism in Africa. Imagine the lighting and processing tasks! Never once dreamt that this would be possible. Love film. Live from digital. Thanks for making this possible!

If the Scarlet Fixed is going to be able to even get close to that, it's absolutely worth the extra money and the extra wait for me. Thanks for deciding to go for it, Mr. Jannard!

Now this is a situation I can relate to. Been there, blown out the view out the door and window. Would probably need at most a reflector to light up the talent inside in a natural way - maybe not even that.

Like how the deep dof shows off the detail outside, though in real life might try for shallower dof. For that would need ND's. Crazy - shooting in a dark barn with NDs so I can blur the detail outside!

Gimme that Scarlet with HDRx!

Astounding (astounding that the Scarlet fixed, too, will be able to achieve something close to this)! I, for one, am not complaining about the (quite equitable) price increase in exchange for light capturing abilities such as this. I support RED.

Google Peter Lik.

Jim

Funny thing, my biz partner Ivan and I were strolling around the Venetian during NAB and ran across Peter Lik's gallery. He had a video wall out front that was displaying some beautiful but pretty low res footage. We were like, this is an opportunity! So we walked in and started talking to the guy at the desk about how Peter should hire us to shoot stuff on the RED camera. After hearing us out, he was like, actually Jannard is building Peter a custom RED One. Doh!

Peter Lick shoots amazing medium format and large format landscapes. I can not wait to see what he does with the 645 and 617 Epics.

Jim,

Any chance we can see what that most difficult to pull off lighting shot - the interior of a car with exterior in view?

I would imagine that it was hard to see the barn like this with your eyes, let alone with a camera.

Any chance the motion clip will be posted?

Your eyes would have to adjust before looking outside.

You can pull down the outside and get a great image also. Everythings there.
Likewise for the interior, there's alot more you can dig into the shadows.

haha i remember that scene in transformers when the kid is giving megan fox a ride home, i dont know if it was the style but u look at the windows and theyre just pure white, looked so bad - at least to me

My definition of professional is "those that dream higher".
