I got word from Cooke today that they will be adding more Focal Lengths' to the Panchro/i set. First to come is the 135mm and then a 40mm, the 40mm is expected summer 2012.

I have to say, the 40mm is my favourite lens out of the Early Speed Panchro set, and i for one am completely over the moon that this wonderful set of glass is going to be expanded, and testament to cookes' evolution, creating glass that covers a 5K sensor.

Have you used the new Panchros? How do you like them? How do they compare in image quality and aesthetic to S4's?

think of an S4 stopped down to a 2.8. that's a panchro. looks pretty much identical.

I have a full set of Panchro's Norm, image wise they are Identical to S4's. Smaller form factor, cover 5K. Pin sharp at T2.8. My Epic M arrives tomorrow, i will be shooting some tests with the Panchros this week.

No promotional pricing available for the new Panchros that I am aware of. Prices are pretty fixed. North American distributor is ZTG.

I believe they should work fine on a 35mm film camera, although I haven't personally tested them for that.

Can Panchros be shot on 35mm film cameras too or are they only for digital? (Like Optimo DP Rouges).

Any camera, certainly fine on my Aaton Prod.

Robert, these are certainly very nice lenses. What type of shooting do you do (Doc, Feature, Commercial, etc.)? Just wondering if you have occasionally had times where you're pissed off at 2.8.

At the weekend music promo, weds corporate, at end of month start a Feature shoot . T2.8 Doesn;t worry me at all. Not with modern sensors and stock. I very rarely shoot wider than 2.8 anyway, even with fast glass. If i do need more stop, i'll hire in. I just sold my RPP set. My next set of glass will be a S5's.

I too have scored a set of Panchros, which should be here in about a week or so! Very excited.

I did hear however that the bokeh on the 50mm is not circular like the rest of the lens set? Is that true and why?

Norm

Norm, All the lenses have a circular matte behind the iris, so that when fully open that matte becomes the aperture (rendering the nicest bokeh). Once you start stopping down the shape of the aperture actually changes. If you point it at an out of focus light source you can watch the shape change as you Iris down. I'm really liking them wide open most of the time.

Can't wait to hear reports with an Epic!

Is the performance of the Panchros wide open equal to other apertures? I think that was one of the most remarkable things about the Leicas was how well they performed wide open, even at Epic 5k ....

On the projector, I saw that the performanc of the Pachros wide open (t2.8), had excellent center sharpness and only slight edge softening as compared to the lens at t5.6. Quite remarkable

I received my lenses yesterday! I checked the iris rings on all lenses and the 50mm wide open is still the octagonal shape of the blades. All the other ones had circular iris wide open...

They are designed to be shot "wide" open. They suffer far less of a optical hit when wide open as other lenses would. Infact they are shockingly consistent from T2.8 all the way down to T11, and still pretty damn sharp past that.
