hi

i will post here some samples next days with R3D stills to play with

just looked out of window and sun came out finally for some seconds ... there is a chapel out there and i took my good old Red 300mm , boot camera and got the last sunray on the Chapel ... sun direclty shies on the white wall of the Chapel - and as i am based in the "black forest" there´s a good contrast in the trees ;-)

2morrow i hope i can do more stuff with high contrast tests.

Cheers.

Edit: would love to see some of your gradings of this frame

thanks.
yes - the 300mm was my first lense from red when i bought the R1 2008 - i have to use it more often ...

ADD

ADD

how can i export a still R3D that shows ADD when it is imported back to Redcine ?

the uploaded R3D can´t use ADD

ah okay, will do - because the frame i did upload seems a bit soft (camera at start in slight movement)
tomorrow, ... ;-)

sorry, ... the uploaded frame is not the best , camera is moving a bit so its bit soft - i will upload better one, 2morrow, and try with ADD, ...

you see it here ...

where is the sweet spot of the old 300mm, f11 ?

edit: compression was 6:1, i have to go to 3:1 i think

it´s fixed, without motion blur but with ADD ;-)

bit underexposed to get the f8 at least, maybe someone can grade some stuff with it ...

new sample

new sample

i shot tons of footage this morning

can´t upload all ;-)

so, ...step for step

here is the first: Morning sun directly in the room, no ND, 1/100 (to avoid motion blur in any way), f8 2/3

here are the stills i did out of the footage, beautiful crisp stills like a photography ...

and here you have the original R3D with ADD

more will follow , today, 2morrow... - i must do some family business with the kids today , so ... will take a bit time ;-)

i did also some tests with my MX again to compare with high contrasts (interior car with black leather and outside white wall)

and, of course, ND stuff, ...

i did one shot in comparison with a GH3 (Photo) and Dragon is the winner, ... will post this also ...

all started in a garage, ...

next.

objects and chart in garage / shadow, small window without any sunlight coming in behind camera, so, a bit of fill light ... needed f16 1/3 to get the outside fence

outside full sun on the white fence

a last sample for today, ...

i tried to get the same with the MX - although there were no lights on it is bit clipped as you see in the scale in window , no recover possible ...

Dragon is safe, nothing clipping and even some reserves left, and richer shadows ...

in general Dragon is clearer. Don´t now about Dynamic Range Improvement. There are others that can measure it better, maybe 2, 3 stops - decide yourself. But it´s not only the stops more ...

but: today , i was suprised, how well MX looked - of course, the Dragon is a great step ahead, but MX is still a great sensor with lots of informations in Raw (i will post more examples where it is more difficult to see the differences between Dragon and the MX)
"House of cards" is the proof for it.

"but" #2: the whole impression if the Dragon image is superior - for me it looks like, that there is more information not only at the ends, but all over the image - tonal values, shades, ... the image is richer, colors are more shining, looking "more healthy"

Seems you can call me a satisfied customer.

Thanks for the pictures Jan. Had a look at the first one you posted.

Found I couldn't balance the brightness of the church with the darkness of the trees in Redcine-X, and it looked like the church might be a little out of focus too, so I took a different approach to the image.

With some crops to emphasize the church a bit more...
