Hi all,

I'll keep it brief;

When running audio in to the 3.5mm jacks...

Is phantom power an option?
How does one control levels? Are they displayed prominently on the LCD screen?
Is there an automatic level control?
Does using a basic 3.5mm to XLR converter introduce any issues?

Looking forward to any info. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the info Brandon.

Anyone have any idea when a RED audio module will be available that isn't a gimpy XLR to 3.5mm converter? Ideally with automatic gain controls...

Well, there's the RED Pro I/O Module that has XLR inputs. It's supposed to start shipping in January for between $2,950 and $3,750.

Phantom power is an option on epic. On RED I've always found on jobs that I'm running audio on my own adjusting levels can be kind of a pain. My plan for Epic is to use the A-box from Wooden Camera along with a Mix-Pre D and just go line in on the brain - that way any leveling can be done on the Mix-Pre and I don't have to worry about the touch screen or menus at all.

I'm also planning on getting the Pro I/O module when it's released, although other than extra XLR inputs I'm not sure what else it offers in the audio department.

Thanks Jake and Brian. It's a shame that getting proper modular XLR inputs on the camera is going to run another $3,000. The Mix-Pre D sounds like a pretty nice alternative. I'm a big fan of automatic gain control on audio inputs, and it doesn't seem to have that. Does anyone know of something similar that offers AGC?

Question: with something like the A-box from Wooden Camera, does the Epic/Scarlet (once Phantom Power is enabled) pass the phantom power through the cables to the A-box XLR adapter?
(basically want to know if I can run my Sennheiser MKH416 Phantom Power mic to an XLR adapter like the A-box to the scarlet's mic ports (when phnatom power functionality is enabled)

Thanks!

I am also a bit worried concerning audio and have not gotten any info/answers yet....What I can say from Epic is: no phantom power yet and no playback. Supposedly this month phantom power is coming as well as playback. The pro audio module is not available yet.
