I didn't see this posted anywhere, but here is a great test Phil Holland does with the Fujinon Premier 18-85 T2.0 and Cabrio 19-90 T2.9 zooms with the Duclos 1.7x Expander on The Red Monstro.

"Filmmaker Phil Holland tests the Fujinon Premier 18-85 T2.0 and Cabrio 19-90 T2.9 zooms with the Duclos 1.7x Expander (+ 1 1/2 stops). Phil uses a Red Monstro 8K VV camera in Super 35 and VistaVision modes. Shots were framed to match approximate Field of View between formats."

Good catch Rand! Filmed this a bit ago to feel out some of the character and technical differences when using an Expander with a larger format versus the native format the optic was designed for.

A lot of people have a fairly large investment in S35 glass, and expanders help bring that glass into the world of larger format. Very useful if you have one of those "utility" zooms so commonly used. Makes that investment last longer and can still tap into the range of flexibility they offer.

Phil,

Yeah! this was a great test and I now have a new love for Fujinon Zoom lenses and the quality of Monstro. Is the Duclos 1.7X expander available yet?

Disclaimer: I own Fujinon glass. That said. Who does Arri partner with on primes? Zeiss. Zooms? Fujinon.
