Actually. That would be super cool.

It's hard to justify the extra cost of owning a dedicated B&W camera but a monochrome Raven would be awesome and affordable. Hell, put an MX sensor in it even.

Great idea!

monochrome Raven makes a lot of sense; I'd seriously consider buying one

4.5 K mono would be sooo darn clean for 4K deliverables

Yup, i like that idea a lot. Monochrome WEAPON/EPIC is out of reach but started to make me desire a pure monochromic camera. So, going monochrome is something i had in mind to do with my Axiom Beta. I was also looking into a monochrome Digital Bolex for some time.

...but a monochrome RAVEN would be way more awesome. Or a monochromic version of that DSMC² Scarlet-successor? ;)

I wish someone would do a matching monochromic display too, OLED maybe.

Just out of curiosity, does it look different when the Monochrome is done in camera vs. in post?

Yes, its much better in camera. My understanding is instead of dividing the sensor into capturing separate R-G-B channels, it solely captures the Luminosity channel, thus in theory 3x more effective for acquiring strictly B&W footage.

A Monochrome Raven would be quite tempting!

Correct. The whole de-bayering get's skipped. On monochrome every sensor-pixel represents a pixel in your image, while with RGB-sensors they got split up by a bayer-matrix. So, a monochrome sensor resolves to visibly higher resolution and due to the absence of filters gains a little more light and dynamic range too.

Look at samples from monochrome EPIC.

RED would sell a shit ton of these.

Better still if they could create a dual purpose sensor that could be switched between monochrome and color.

I don't think it's even possible with a fixed OLPF.

But this might be a nice surprise to unleash at NAB, hint hint.

Yes, agreed. I was really thinking more in terms of the Weapon, but with some re-engineering, it could be done with the RAVEN as well, if it can be done at all.

+10,000 for RAVEN Monochrome

:cheers2:

Seriously, monochrome Raven will rock - true 4.5K scope w/ nothing lost in debayering!

BUT don't change the price too much for it; say make $500~750 more.

Sooooo.... Jarred? Brent? Jim? Seems like there's demand............... any chance of supply? :)
