  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MONOCHROME - 4000asa TOIA tests.

Mark, thanks for the test pics. Is it just total wild speculation on your part, or have there been indications that Dragon will offer this kind of dynamic range and high ISO capability? I haven't followed the chatter on Dragon, so I'm just wondering how realistic it is to have this as a benchmark.

Im just hoping it is... Would not have a clue though, but if dragon does perform like the monochrome is range, depth and noise, it would be a god send..

The ISO capabilities are achived because there is no color filter array in front of the sensor. Remember that that filtration throws away 2/3 of the light. it absorbs the unwanted colors, so say for a red pixel : it blocks the blue and green light from reaching the photosite.
Dispose of the color filters and you get all the photons reaching the photosite.

I'm not impressed by the resolution, but he must have blown up the picture 300% or so. He didn't say.

Again, I encourage people to post full resolution images as a jpg. It'ss useful to see the output from cameras.
Funny how on a site promoting 4K there are almost no post processed 4K images to be seen, isn't it ?
Posting r3d is no good. Finals is what the customers want to see.

I was zooming up to 1600% on RSX and screen grabbing... best I can do on this forum.

It baffles me that people perceive a potential resistance to black and white imagery. Its such a commonplace thing in stills that I can't fathom what the negative association is with motion.
Amen! I love Eraserhead and I love almost anything by Lynch - I wish he did more b&w stuff. Mulholland Drive could have worked really well in b&w. Most of his earlier photos were b&w (I have his book, Images).

Ah! That explains why those blow-ups are so damned soft. I was thinking that the output could not be that poor, because confirmation bias cannot be that strong! That solves that issue. :-)

Gorgeous stuff mark despite the jpegs.. I still think film/digital was meant to be black and white and color is a gimmick... but im old school. that said.

Where the hell did you get the terminator?!! that thing is awesome!

Oh yeah its sharp al right, but not those shots. I wasn't really looking for sharpness in the shots, I was just looking at latitude and noise... (which it got 9 out of 10 in my book) plus I did zoom in 1600%... which will make any lens look a touch soft.

OK, now I'm impressed . 1600% !
Can you post a full resolution Jpeg, or a full resolution jpeg2000 to please Tim as well ? ;)
